“Great lunch”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2014

Popped in here for lunch after visiting local nature reserve. The menu was varied and reasonably priced and did not disappoint. Apparently it is the oldest pub on the Wirral and you can well believe it in certain rooms. It certainly adds to the charm. Will hope to make a return visit for an evening meal.

“When the cows come home”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2014

Recently had an evening meal at The Cowshed and will certainly be evening dining there again. We have had a fair number of lunches there over the past few years and have always promised ourselves that we would try it out one evening. The two girls that waited on were very friendly, efficient and a delight to be served by. The food is good and well presented though could have been a little hotter. No real downside to this establishment other than accessing the restaurant on our visit meant wading through a good number of smokers outside the pub's main front entrance and having to negotiate our way through the very busy bar area to get to the restaurant.

“Favourite pub”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2014

My fave pub on the Wirral. Easy cycling distance and calorie neutral! A pint's worth of calories burnt each way. So 2 pints calorie free. Great in winter when the fires are blazing, great in the summer in the courtyard or garden. Well kept cellar with regularly changed guest ales, including (once) my old tipple Brains SA, and local brews like the Brimstage Brewery's Trapper's Hat always available. I've never, in all the years coming here, eaten in the Cowshed but the extensive bar menu with interesting and unique blackboard specials is second to none. And get the toastie menu. Remember them...those staples of any good pub lunch? Rare to find anywhere in a world of gastro-pubs. But here...... huge choice. And all good.
Nicest thing about the Thatch, apart from the staff, is the fact that it's a rarity.......a bonafide award-winning restaurant in one part but the bulk still very much a traditional pub where you don't feel out of place just having a pint (you know...the thing people used to go to pubs for) but also where you can eat as you wish...big meal, sandwich or toastie.
