“Garden of Eden”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2012

My wife and I took a short break in and around Abersoch in May, and we landed on Wern Fawr as the sort of place we wanted - quite luckily, since we left it a bit late to book. We weren't disappointed....

As someone else has said in their review: "full of old world charm with oak beams, etc.". Exactly right, and with a theme of Africa based on the time that the man of the house spent there. Although we would have liked the bigger 4-poster bedroom, that had already been booked, but the replacement was still perfectly fine for our needs and had a useful mini-fridge.

Wern Fawr is well tucked away and can be tricky to find on the first occasion, but Helen welcomed us warmly after a 3-hour drive and an arrival in near darkness. It was only in the morning, when I got a much better view of our location in this sleepy hollow of Llanbedrog, did I think of it as being like the Garden of Eden, hence my review title.

Breakfast was something else. Not good for a greedy person like me who sees portions of two of everything and thinks he can manage it. I struggled manfully but had to reduce my intake on the following mornings -- Helen, that's what you call a Welsh breakfast !

Before we left, we were keen to see the other weekly cottage accommodation that the Parrys have on site. Helen was very happy to show us around. The cottages were beautifully furnished and decorated - a very different style to the main house, it has to be said - and we would love to consider a week here in the not-too-distant future.

It doesn't get much better than this! LOVELY HOSTS AND GREAT IN EVERY WAY. IT HAS BEEN AN ABSOLUTE PRIVILEGE TO SHARE THEIR HOME AND ENCOMPASS SOME ANTECEDENT HISTORY. I WANT DEVILLED KIDNEYS FOR BREAKFAST SINE-DIE! The location can be difficult to find but drive carefully on the narrow lanes to enjoy a great and friendly reward at the end of your journey. You will be hard pushed to find a better welcome anywhere, and that includes our Border Collie's opinion! We were all made to feel a part of the family. Fantastic!

This was a family holiday and we had two rooms in the main house. What a wonderful hotel in a stunning setting. The hotel is full of old world charm with oak beams, cosy lounge with a huge fireplace and big comfy sofas and a lovely breakfast room with an African theme. The hotel has a home from home feel and Helen & Alan went out of their way to make us welcome. We were able to relax in the extensive landscaped gardens and my nephew's children played happily with the owners children Kaitlyn & Max, two delightful children. After a soaking on the beach from a sudden downpour Helen let us use the washing machine & drier to wash the children's clothes and dry our towels which saved a trip to a launderette! The breakfast choice is excellent, all local produce freshly prepared with home made jams, farm fresh eggs, award winning sausages, kippers, devilled kidney's, cereals, etc., There are woodland walks, lots of small animals at the farm and beautiful scenery all around. We had a very relaxing break and will definitely return. A wonderful b & b

We have just returned from a fantastic visit to Wern Fawr Manor Farm. I have never been a B&b fan, more a hotel person, but this stay may just have changed my views. We were met by Helen practically the second we turned our engine off. She came out to greet us, which was so refreshing. We had the double bedroom which was very spacious with an ensuite and a little walk in wardrobe/ dressing room which I loved. Plus the luxury of an electric blanket... I am now a warm bed convert! Helen could not have made us feel more welcome. However, their first rate service really kicked in when our eldest daughter who was camping at the Wakestock festival rang us in despair having been flooded out of her tent by the rain. Helen was fabulous in terms of providing us with extra towels for her and her friend to shower, we used the drying facilities to dry her clothes and then she managed to fit Jess in for the night and couldn't have been more helpful. An extra cup and saucer even appeared on our bedroom tea tray! Due to the rain we were a litlle stuck in for a while and the barn door was openend to reveal a pool and table tennis table which was fantastic to fill some time. Alan kindly helped us get it all working. The breakfasts were huge and delicious and Helen was always around if we had any questions about local places to go to. We will definitely be back.

We had a family get-together for eight, spanning three generations, in Bragdy Wern, the largest of the cottages and it was the perfect venue. If all the cottages on the estate are up to this standard you can’t go wrong.
The cottage is to a very high standard throughout with a superbly equipped kitchen, a large lounge/dining room with a wood burning stove and a big sunny conservatory with settees, which we made much use of. The four bedrooms were all of a good size, comfortable and well furnished. They are not en suite but the downstairs wetroom/toilet and upstairs bathroom/toilet are large and well designed with high quality fittings. As a family group we didn’t find that having just two loos caused any problems but it may be an issue for some groups.
The rural setting is peaceful and very pretty with extensive grounds and woodland paths for strolling or jogging. Added attractions when we were there in late April were lambs in the fields all around and recently hatched ducklings in the barn, together with the free range hens and guinea fowl wandering round the gardens. We were lucky with the weather and were able to make use of the secluded lawn for sitting out in the afternoon sun. The garden shed contained chairs and tables and a very fine gas-fired BBQ (which we didn’t use).
It’s a great location for touring the Lleyn and the village of Llanbedrog is just a few minutes away by car. We had an excellent family meal at the Glen-y-Weddw Arms and have heard good reports of the Ship Inn. The Plas Glyn Y Weddw Art Gallery is definitely worth a visit, even if just to admire the splendid house interior and have tea and cakes in the conservatory café.

Just spent a week in North Wales & this location is perfect if you love the countryside, but near to the beaches & towns.

We stayed in the "Cottage" one of five options. The weather was good for this time of year but cold - however the cottage was lovely & warm with plenty of hot water

The cottage was spacious & well equipped & the owners provide a very handy welcome pack. The grounds are fantastic & offer great walks.

Would happily stay there again & would highly recommend

A welcoming and friendly family B & B, tucked away in a secluded and beautiful part of the Llyn Peninsular. Lovely walks straight from the door (just what you need after the superb breakfasts), Alan and Helen pride themselves on providing local produce, their own free-range eggs, jams and chutneys. This was our tenth visit and we are back again this year.
