“Loved every minute”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2009

We came up for my son’s wedding who we booked in the Bridal Suite for 2 nights, along with 6 other guests and their families. Everyone enjoyed it and gave it a 100% recommendation. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, and the breakfasts were excellent. Superb food and piping hot. Rooms clean, quiet and comfortable. A huge advantage was that we had a ‘noisy party’ along with another group, and did not have to worry about disturbing anyone as bar is so remote from bedrooms. Would look forward to returning again and fantastic value for money. Well done to all staff and thank you. Mr & Mrs White (senior)

We stayed here for four nights whilst we were up in the area booking our wedding. We arrived in awful weather to a lovely welcome, in fact every single member of staff was friendly and extremely helpful.
We booked a standard double which suited our needs perfectly. The room was lovely, spotlessly clean and cleaned and replenished every morning as if by magic! The food was really great quality and the portion sizes thoroughly filled us up. The prices were also very good for the food we had.
We had a show round with the view to booking a number of rooms in Sept next year and the other rooms we saw were all of a high quality, especially the bridal suites. This hotel boasts a number of function rooms to suit all sorts of events. The wedding co-ordinator was a huge wealth of knowledge and we felt that she, and in fact everyone, couldn't do enough to make us feel like us and our wedding guests would be well looked after.
Please do not be put off by the negative reviews on this site, this hotel really is a gem and if it is a warm, welcoming stay that makes you leave feeling thoroughly looked after and rested, this is your hotel. Ok, some areas are a little dated, but in-keeping with the area and atmosphere of the place. The hospitality is so great that you don't even notice.
I hope The Gables keeps up the good work and my partner and I cant wait to go back in the new year! xxx

My partner and I stayed at The Gables for our wedding on 30th October - and we cannot recommend it enough. Easy to find, ideally located for shops and wedding venues. The staff were friendly (nothing was too much trouble) and extremely helpful - and they always had smiles on their faces!!!!! The room was spotless and the four poster bed to die for. The hotel has a lovely relaxed environment, the food was excellent. We fully intend to return as soon as we can.

My husband and I stayed 3 nights in total and enjoyed every minute of our stay. We were at the hotel for a wedding - staff were most helpful, always ready to help, food was excellent. The only downside was the decor - really needs upgrading. I was glad the bar shut on time - wish they would do that everywhere!

Stayed at The Gables September 2009 to get married at Blacksmiths Shop along with 4 other couples. Booked the Suite, glad we did as the other rooms were so small you could not swing a mouse let alone a cat ! The Suite is very expensive at £275 ? a night BB. Good facilities and high spec but needs maintainence and a good clean, dvd player not working (reported it - not fixed or replaced, various lights etc. Nice to have complimenary fruit on arrival, shame it was mouldy and completely inedible..... Food very ordinary in the restaurant but the bar menu is varied and good. This is a machine of a hotel which somewhat goes against its advertising which infers it has a more 'relaxed' and 'country house' feel. Definatly not !! Seems the hotel is up for sale and a staff member let it slip that this is why there are 'maintainence' issues..... Be prepared for the bar shutters to be firmly closed at 11pm every night whether you are a guest or not. Dissapointing and rather embarrasing as we booked the hotel for our guests too. Look elsewhere, there are a lot of other hotels nearby

I stayed in the Gables when we got married in Aug at the anvil hall, it was all aranged by the wedding breau so did not know what to expect, but were very pleased when we arrived.  We were greeted by lovely friendly staff which where very helpful and helped us withour many questions.  They even let my wedding guest use a room to get ready in as they could only stay for the day.  Our wedding reception was lovely in private room all to ourselves and the food was amazing.  The night before the wedding we stayed in a bridal suite which was fine it was a nice room very clean with a four poster, bed jacuzzi conner bath and the usual you wold expect.  After the wedding the fantastic reception staff upgraded us to the Alisa suite which was fantastic it was amazing with a huge bathroom including 4 man jacuzzi seprate shower, his and her sinks and all little extras that made it very special, it had a seprate living area with a huge plasma TV leather sofa need i go on it wasbrilliant i would recommed this room to anyone i know.  Everything about our stay at The Gables was great i couldn't ask for anything more and would love to go back maybe for our 1st aneversary
