“Great place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2012

We stayed at Hunters Lodge the day before our wedding which took place elsewhere in Gretna. Upon arrival we were shown to our upgraded room at no extra charge. The room was lovely, clean and comfortable. Complimentary toiletries, nice clean white towels and comfortable bed.
The cooked breakfast was lovely as enjoyed by my new husband and plenty of choice of cereals and toast etc for me as I do not like cooked breakfast. Very welcome pots of coffee and tea too.

We vacated our room at 10am and were allowed kindly to leave our luggage at the hotel until we headed off to our wedding venue in a taxi booked for us by the hotel.

We were looked after very well and felt very welcome, and comfortable for our one night stay.
Would thoroughly recommend this Hotel as a good place to stay.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2012

Upon arriving at this hotel on Friday 28th September 2012 to a very warm welcome, my partner and I were immediately offered the Bridal Suite. This was a very pleasant surprise and an exceptionally nice offer, which we took up.

From the minute we got into the room we felt settled, as did our sets of parents. We then went downstairs and had a couple of pints whilst we all chatted to Linda and Gary who were more than happy to chat and give us history of the local area etc.

Our room (Bridal Suite) was lovely. I have never slept so well, in fact as the mattress was just how I like it.

The food we were not able to fault at all. It was exceptional at every meal. The waitresses were more than happy at each meal time to accommodate anything we asked for and were incredibly friendly and attentive.

Our wedding day was fantastic, so much so, that 2 relatives with 3 children in tow turned up as a surprise and to ensure that after the ceremony they didn't have to drive 150 miles with nothing to show for it, we asked Linda if we could have some sandwiches and chips etc back at the hotel for them, to which she obliged with no problem at all. (If I am being honest, I think our request may have delayed her getting her own lunch, therefore her kindness went a very long way)

The evenings were entertaining and full of laughter and I would recommend this hotel to anyone, and we will most certainly be going back.

I am horrified to see some of the scathing remarks on this page given our stay. So horrified in fact that I have noticed in reading these reviews if the reviewers are as observant as their grammatical incorrectness and diabolical spelling, then I wouldn’t trust anything that they have written.

Our sincere thanks to Gary, Linda and Sophie, and the girls for a wonderfully entertaining stay.

I booked this hotel for my sisters wedding, there were 10 people staying in our party,

On entering this hotel i thought oh my god what have i done, it looked run down not very clean, but i thought "oh well maybe the rooms are better" how wrong can you be, On entering our room i did'nt no where to look first the shabbie bed covers, the pillows with brown stains seeping through the musty smell, the stains on the carpet, the dust! oh the dust i dont think anywere had been cleaned if it had then they really need to get a new cleaner, the tv when on made a funny noise like there was someone in the cubboard winding it up, i was so upset as it was my sisters wedding she and three others from our party had not arrived yet they were following in another car so myself and my husband went for a walk i texted her and told her what it was like she however thought i was joking, when she arrived she was upgraded free of charge to the bridal suite, and our two other friends were given my sisters room instead of the room they were allocated to on our original booking, there room was worse than mine (which is saying something) the poor lady never slept for the two night's we were there, her shower door fell off but her husband put it back on,(well done martin) her room was not clean, her bed had a loft hatch above it and that had'nt been painted for years. We never said anythink while we were there as i did not want to upset my sister (who had paid for it and travelled all the way from gran caneria) she said we will just have to make the best of it which we did, We had a brilliant two days with friends the wedding its self was brill and we had a laugh, mostly about the hotel, PLEASE DO NOT STAY HERE, unless your not really fussy about cleanliness, or you want to go and have a look your self. ps Please wash your hair,

Room Tip: NO if you have to stay there then ask for a room in the extention, nothink like the rooms we had.

We are writing in response to your recent visit to the Hunters Lodge Hotel. As proprietors of this small family run hotel, my husband & I both personally run the hotel from morning right through to last orders and at no point during your two night stay was anything mentioned to us. We were very surprised at your comments.
Your party consisted of 10 persons of which 3 rooms you booked. The rooms booked by you were standard doubles en suite with shower. The other 4 in your party booked independently and opted for the de lux doubles with bath. Arriving in the afternoon before the rest of your party, you were shown to your room. At no time did you raise any of your concerns.
The bride and groom were upgraded to the bridal suite at no extra cost, as this room was available.
We were not aware of any problems with the shower door and thank you for bringing this to our attention. This has now been attended to.
We are sorry to hear that you were unhappy with your stay. We were not made aware of any problems until your post on Tripadvisor. Had we been made aware of any problems, they could easily have been rectiified at the time.
PS Our staff said to say thank you for the £14 gratuity you left for them.
L & G Dodd.

We had a great time staying at Hunters Lodge Hotel. The rooms were immaculate and very comfortable could not have asked for any better. The staff could not do enough for you nothing was a problem to them. The dinning room was immaculate breakfast and meals were great as again was staff. Lovely bar and sitting area out back. Would advise anyone to use this hotel as I would go back again perfectly situated to all for weddings and sightseeing. Enjoyed my time there very much. Linda

Just stayed for one night here for my best friends wedding. The poor waitresses worked their legs off but the food was bland at best. We had the 'second bridal suite'. The room was old fashioned, flowerey, dusty and cold. The furniture was worn out and very dated. It took 10 minutes to get hot water and the bathroom cabinet had electrical tape to cover the cracks in the mirror. The quilt was thin and the heater in the room didnt work so we had to wear t shirts in bed. The bathroom did not have frosted glass or net curtains so when my husband stood up from the toilet, the people in the houses opposite would have had a shock if they had good eyesight!! This biscuits with the tea making facilities were the cheapest you can get and we had to share one packet with 2 in. Breakfast was ok but nothing special if not too greasy. All this for £100 for one night. Dont bother staying here unless every other room in gretna is let already!

Room Tip: Saw some of the other guests rooms, and wouldnt have stayed in any of them if we had known.
