“A little gem in the heat of Wales”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013

We spent 3 days at the Slate Shed in our touring caravan, and what a little gem it is. Although easy to find, it is an oasis of delights, from walking, cycling, to just sitting and taking in the stunning views across the valley and estury. We were met by Sarah on arrival who was very friendly and informative of the site and local area. All facilities are excellent, good toilets, showers, dishwashing area, honesty shop available.
We enjoyed our stay so much we've booked again for May

We had a wonderful 3 night break recently, the cottage was lovely, spacious and well laid out, the kitchen was very well equipped and we had no problems cooking anything! The log burner is cosy although we felt it wasn't large enough to heat the space, but as we had storage heaters too it wasn't too bad, we loved the area and the stunning views from the campsite, we visited the local towns and the local pub too and all in all the local people were great!!!
The only thing that I had any issue with was the size of the bath, it is tiny!! But with the water flow so slow (as it's from the stream) it's probably a good idea, I just love to wallow in a big deep bath, but that's a small price to pay after such a relaxing break!!! Keep up the good work x

Thanks for your kind words. It's been unseasonably cold so we've been on extra fire-wood chopping duties!

We spent three nights at graig wen in our campervan in early november. The site is stunning and the main reason we booked here is that it has a communial firepit for the campervan and tourers. On arrival was greeted by Sarah who was very friendly and informative of the site and local area. We loved being able to camp and have a camp fire as many sites these days will not allow them. All facilities are excellent, good toilets, showers, dishwashing area, honesty shop available. Will most defiantely be going back as the views and walk/cycle track near to the site is great.

I booked The Slate Shed B&B for a birthday surprise for my fiance. It was easy to find on the road between Dolgellau and Fairbourne, tucked away from the road behind lots of foliage and overlooking the stunning Mawddach Estuary. Sarah was a great host who welcomed us with tea & welsh cakes in the Caban area which is super cosy and available for guests to use at any time. There is an honesty bar which we didn't use but thought was a great touch - if you were there in Summer it'd be a perfect place to watch the estuary on a summer's evening.

We stayed in Miri Mawr room - super stylishly decorated with great artwork, vintage furniture and a gorgeous bathroom with rainfall shower. Both the bedroom & bathrooms have views over the estuary. The bed was very comfy and the room was very peaceful.

The B&B itself sits at the top of the Graig Wen site and you can walk down to the water's edge through the campsite, its quite steep but worth the walk down to the path along the estuary. If we'd been staying longer I think we'd have hired bikes and explored properly.

We absolutely loved it, I know we'll be back and next time for longer!! Thanks so much for a lovely short break.

Room Tip: Miri Mawr has a large bathroom and great views of the estuary. If we returned we wouldnt necessarily...

I have just spent an enjoyable short break at the Slate Shed in Snowdonia with my wife and her perents. It is very difficult to get a B&B that caters for my wife who is wheelchair bound. The Seren room has a very big wet room and was more than suitable with a very comfortable double bed. From the breakfast room there is stunning views of the Mawddach Estuary. We were centrally placed in Snowdonia and had some wonderful drives. The breakfast was excellent and set us up for the day.

Wow......, where shall I start.

We have been lucky enough to stay at the Graig Wen/Slate Shed guest house and cottages for our wedding accomodation this weekend in Wales and it has been the perfect place for ourselves an our guests to all be together for our most special day.

The location and views are spectacular looking directly out over the enchanting Mawddach estuary to the sea.

The guest house rooms are all so individually exquisite with lovely touches such as hand made salted caramels, waffles and natural toiletry products.

Please note the beds are that comfy that you may need two alarm clocks to ever get up in the morning for breakfast which you will not want to miss.

The morning breakfast is of such a high standard, better than any guest house I have stayed in with an abundance of local produce , preserves, bread , honies, yoghurts, eggs , sausages and the star of the show is the thick cut local bacon which is like a succulent gammon steak :)) . Overall an outstanding breakfast experience.

The service is second to none, both Sarah and John, the owners, are most welcoming and helpful for anything that is needed and are a great source of local knowledge. Matt the manager is a great guy and was most helpful with liasing with some of our guests that were en route to the cottages we had booked for them.

To Summarise, this place has been so perfect for our wedding accomodation in every way and has exceeded all of mine and my new wife's expectations words do not really do justice.

We will be returning soon to stay in one of their yurts in the woodland grounds of the Graig Wen along with many of our wedding party who were all blown away with this place.

If you ever have the chance to stay here then do, you will not be dissapointed.

Thank you to Sarah, John and Matt (along with all the behind the scene staff) for making our wedding weekend so special with your attentive service and your exquisite accomadation, look forward to seeing you soon.

Mike and Caroline.

Mr and Mrs Reid x :)

If you like delicious breakfasts (with a huge choice), stunning views & funky decor this is the place for you. Lots of choice for vegetarians too. We felt very welcomed & we had a lovely chilled week exploring the estuary, castles, gardens etc. A lovely walk along the estuary to Barmouth across the footbridge... Hope to be back.

Room Tip: The estuary facing rooms are lovely...
