“A pleasant business hotel.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2013

A good location and service levels are above average. The grounds are excellent and public areas well kept.
Reception is efficient and pleasant and with the exception of the restaurant whose staff are correct but in need of a little more training to reach the best standards.
Bedrooms are large, comfortable and well maintained. You either love or hate a plethora of cushions on the bed- I am of the latter view; but apart from personal taste good bedrooms. They would benefit from AC and having the TV at 90 deg to the bed isn't too clever.

Small things but all add to the experience.

Room Tip: Assuming the newer rooms have AC then go for one of those.

My husband and I recently stayed here for two nights whilst I was working in Oxford for the day. It was a good find and we loved it. On arrival we were given the option to upgrade and were shown an alternative room just incase we wanted to change but we were happy with our standard room, it was very clean and comfortable, ok it didn't have a good view but that really didn't bother us. It was very peaceful and quiet at night.

We made the most of the gym, pool, sauna and steam room and felt that all staff were very friendly, helpful and attentive. Perhaps guests who use the pool could be given robes as this may ease the pressure on the changing room. Another small investment would be to have a spin dryer in the changing rooms to spin your swimming costumes.

Loved the breakfast, plenty of choice and they even had soya milk! On leaving the receptionist made us aware that the hotel gives discounted entry tickets to Blenheim Palace so we saved about six pounds on two tickets....a great way to end our stay.

Getting into Oxford was easy and as the hotel has a sister hotel in Oxford we were given a complementary parking ticket to park there. The sister hotel was a ten minute bus ride from the centre and the bus stops are right outside the hotel...it was very handy.

Finally thank you to Andrei and Bianca on the desk for being so helpful. Thank you to all the staff in the restaurant, you were very attentive and friendly first thing in the morning! Thank you to the gym staff too, you all did a great job...

Room Tip: Standard rooms are very comfortable and quiet so don't be put off staying in one of these...

It was an anniversay stay for us, which we just noted on the special requirements section (Didn't think any more of it). We checked-in and were given an immediate upgrade and once in our room, found a card and a box of chocolates from the hotel manager on the bed.
The room (room 110) was on the ground floor with patio doors & a patio table that overlooked the river and the river boat. The wing itself its very new & therefore immaculate. The room itself was a good size, with modern wardrobes and a very decent shower. The bed was very comfortable, so much so, we both slept through our alarm!
Breakfast was in the conservatory and a good selection. Dinner was Al a Carte and although we waited a little too long, we were looked after very well & given an additional complimentary course from the chef. The dinner itself was worth waiting for, very well presented and delicious. The wine menu gave a good choice and was very reasonably priced for a hotel.
The staff, from check-in to check-out were attentive, friendly and very well presented. It's all in the service for us & this hotel has trained it's staff well. A fab hotel - compliments to the hotel manager, we will be back!

Stayed here recently for a family wedding and thought it was lovely. The wedding setting outside was fantastic and the staff all very pleasant and helpful. Set in lovely grounds it is extremely picturesque for wedding photos. There is also plenty of parking.
Our room was very nice and comfortable but not really anything special for the £150 a night price ( which was a reduced rate for wedding guests) and was a standard double room, i wouldnt like to say how much the suites would be! I've stayed in other hotels equally as nice and paid far less, i think you are paying for the location here.
The food at the wedding was good and was served well, breakfast was really nice and there was plenty of choice of both hot and cold foods which were buffet style, but done as it should be where everything was regularly topped up, hot food was hot and all surfaces clean.
Overall i can't really fault this hotel except for the price, this is the only thing that would stop me returning here for a weekend away.

Stayed here in May for a birthday gift from my family - what a lovely place. Our Room St Hilda was amazing. Beautiful layout, private, exceptionally clean and well presented. This hotel made out weekend. Breakfast, you couldn't ask for more, everything you could think of. Evening meal was beautiful, staff were incredibly polite and always had a smile and willing to please, no matter what your need. RYAN and MONICA who waited on our table both breakfast and evening meal were exceptional. Ryan is a young man who has the most amazing talent of making you feel very welcome and is so obliging, nothing is too much trouble. Monica is so bubbly and after a night when we left the restaurant at 11am she was still smiling the next morning at 8.30am. A short journey away to Oxford Town Centre, this hotel offers, a tranquil atmosphere, superb accommodation, a bar and lounge area that is so relaxing and a setting that is beautiful, If you don't stay here........you are missing out! Enjoy your stay. Amanda Northampton!

Room Tip: St Hilda's room is tucked way and beautiful! very quiet

The decor of this hotel is wonderful, it's well laid out and the 'barn' ceilings in the reception give it a really classic feel. Our College Hall Suite had garden views, which was lovely to wake up to in the morning. The bed gave us an amazing night's sleep by the way; several pillows and a VERY comfortable bed. The only issue I had with the room is that the TV is situated diagonal-right from the end of the bed - not a big problem but it's just a bit odd if you want to watch before you drift off.

Breakfast was your usual-but-good English buffet; I was also pleased that the chef was able to specially cook my vegetarian sausages and a waiter bought them to the table within 5 minutes. The real surprise were the pastries - I'm not exaggerating when I say the croissants and danishes might just be the best I've EVER eaten! They were unbelievably soft and fluffy - a treat!

Leisure facilities were fine and relaxing. Staff were all friendly and very willing to help. So what's the but?

We chose this hotel as we wanted to do a bit of walking. The hotel's grounds look very pretty and the river setting is nice. Although it's pleasant to have ducks and geese wandering around, this is the biggest problem - the grounds are full of s**t! We had to keep watching where we were stepping next because there was so much dung on the grounds. Although the grass was neat and trimmed, it just looked like it hadn't been cleaned in months. This actually ruined the walking experience around the grounds which is a real shame because the hotel was lovely in all other aspects. (NB: I've given 'cleanliness' a low rating based on the grounds NOT the room - room was super clean).

Overall a really good hotel but come here with a car as it's not really near anything. Oxford City Centre is 3 miles away and is served by a bus stop right outside the hotel - but not sure how regular the buses are.

I took my wife here for a mini-break to oxford for her birthday. The location is ideal, it feels like a country hotel with nice grounds and access to the Thames, but it is only 5 minutes from Oxford, costing just £8 to get to the centre by taxi.

The room was spacious and well appointed. The spa, which is included for all guests, is very nice with a pleasant and relaxing pool and hot tub. The sauna and steam room are not huge, but were quiet when we went. The room is nothing special for the price (although there is certainly nothing wrong with it), but you are paying for the location and facilities which are definately worth it for a special occasion.

We turned up too late for breakfast, arriving at 10:00 when they finish serving at 9:30, but the staff were very helpful and attentive and kindly cooked us a hot breakfast anyway.
