An unusual hotel in that it was most certainly a traditional pub originally and to some extent still is, but with 7 guest rooms above, each individually designed. We stayed in the "Big Splash" room on the top floor with its own bath at the foot of the bed. The room was very good, bright and airy and having had a quick look in some of the other (vacant) rooms, was one of the best in the hotel, though the others were all fine, if quite a bit smaller than the one we were in.
The rooms however, whilst having a great deal of care taken over their decor lacked certain touches which would have made them work better. For instance our room had a large LCD TV on the wall but it was fixed to the wall and pointed across the room, neither to the bed, or the bath, or the easy chair. So there was no place to watch the TV without looking at it at an acute angle. An angled wall bracket, so we could have turned the TV to face either the bed or bath would have been ideal. Similarly the stylish table on which the tea and coffee making facilities were located had no power socket so the kettle had to be plugged in on the floor on the opposite side of the bed. Finally whilst the room had been completely remodelled, still had the original single glazed window, which overlooked the road outside and let a huge amount of road noise into the room. A double glazed window would have made the room much quieter. On a final positive note though the lighting in the room was excellent, with a lot of thought having gone into the planning. Just a pity this wasn't applied to the other bits.
The food was very good, if a little pricey. A £23 menu for 3 courses was good value for the food quality offered but this was not everyday eating and this menu was not offered on the Saturday evening, leaving only the far more expensive al a carte menu. We ate out in one of Addingham's other pubs on our second night which was more basic food but perfectly fine at half the price.
The young manageress was very good with the right balance of attentiveness and leaving you alone. The room servicing could be improved though with no replenished tea/coffee or bathroom shampoo/shower gel for our second night. We also didn't appreciate finding on our return after a day out, that our room key had been left in the room door rather than being safely back at reception after the room had been serviced. Thankfully no one had helped themselves to our things.
Overall an individual hotel with many things right and just a few things wrong. We visited using Groupon vouchers and at the discounted price the rights very much outweighed the wrongs.
