“A good honest village pub with food, beer and service given good attention by friendly and welcoming management and staff.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 2, 2012 via mobile

I have visited and revisited (tells its own story) this pub many times since the refurbishment and the welcome, food and beer have been of a consistently good standard. If you are wanting fine dining then go to any number of good (and much, much more expensive) restaurants in the area, however, if you are in this pretty village, are hungry, thirsty and in need of a warm welcome then the Nags Head is a safe bet. The only improvement (for us - maybe not others) would be if this pub allowed dogs (there is a small room with hard flooring aside from the main pub/eating area that would do very well). There is a pub a couple of miles away that does allow man's best friend and it hasn't harmed their trade at all, in fact it is a key differentiator!

“Food ok, service could be better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2012

Arrived after booking over phone & our party were stood like lemons in middle of pub full of locals before eventually being seated. The waitress irritatingly kept coming to the table asking for the order every couple mins. The food was ok but the service & experience was a little unprofessional. Shame as this could be very good.

“Super soups”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2012

The Nags Head is an equally great place for a quick lunch after a dog walk on the Wirral Way (the soups are fantastic) or for an evening meal. The food is freshly prepared and the staff are very obliging. The only down-side for me is that it's gaining popularity with people with young children who tend not to be table-trained!

“Needs major attention to service and food quality!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2012

Having dined here a number of times in recent months, I reserved judgement on a rather mediocre offering by the new management following its recent makeover.
Frankly they should have saved the money - the new ethos simply isn't working, lacklustre service and poorly cooked food - they're not even managing to get 'Pub Grub' right which isn't rocket science at the best of times.

This gastro pub used to be a busy little village pub in recent years, with a good atmosphere and really good well cokked pub grub.. Sadly now the place is devoid of atmosphere and the food can only be described as passable...

They need to go back to basics - how hard can it be to ensure that one's 'fish & chips' are cooked properly and that the fish isn't undercooked almost to the point of being raw..
Won't be going back to this gastro pub until there's a another change of management and they put things right..
