“bar food? not likely”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2013

How naff, a nice location advertising bar food. During the afternoon you can get cake... Thats it! It is on trip advisor as a restaurant... This badly needs updating because it isnt. And its not the easiest place
to get to. Though if you are lucky you may get to see the great white egret that frequents the marsh.

“A great little local”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2013

We are lucky enough to live a stones throw away from this great little pub. It serves great guest beers and there is always a great atmosphere. You can chat to some of the locals who have been coming here for decades. The coffee and a slice of cake is a welcome addition to my Sunday afternoon visits. We can go for a walk and either sit inside or out on one of the many picnic benches. The best pub around. Come and pay it a visit.

“A Nice Little Neston Boozer”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2013

First of all this pub is not in Parkgate but in Neston. The Harp is so called in honour of the Irish miners who came over to work the pit that closed in 1927. There are photos of those mining days hanging on the walls
This old-time pub could be qualified as a boozer or an ale-house rather than as a swanky up-market gastro public house. In other words you're not going to get piped music, multiple-choice tasteless lagers or badly-behaved kids of all ages running riot. Instead you'll get hubbub (if there's more than just yourself), casque beers and well-behaved codgers of all ages. The smell of soggy dog might be off-putting for some, but it's all part of the atmosphere.
The location of the pub, overlooking the marshy Dee estuary is a great asset, especially on a winter's evening with the Welsh lights gleaming in the distance and the roaring pub fire enticing you back in. This said, if ever you fancy a cuddle in the car park, beware the summer marsh mozzies.
Pubs like this are becoming a rarity. If you’re nostalgic for what a pub used to be like, partial to good ale, sensitive to atmospherics and aren't looking for super-nosh, go and sink a few at the Harp………but don’t drive home.

“Chalk & Cheese”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2013

Been coming to this pub now for a year or two. Great location & cosy bar. No good for snacks and limited choice of lagers.

Come in the day and and lady who serves is cold and unfriendly..as if I've just wandered into her own home. The staff in the evening are far friendlier and you're served with a smile. On occasions they have even bought brought some chips in for all the share.

“Do they want lunchtime customers?”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2013

I have been to this pub many times over many years but not for a while. This week I called in hoping to get lunch. No other customers to be seen, no staff to be seen but can hear sound of money being counted. Sit in bar for about 10 mins waiting to be served, female staff member appears and says "What do you want?"
I asked for our drinks and these were served. Asked if they were serving food today ( as they used to) - response - "NO". In a bid to stay polite but find out when I might be able to get any food, I asked if they only served it in the summer. Response this time - "We haven't done food for a year".
Retreated to seat and drank the beer which sadly had not been well kept and was barely drinkable.
Maybe it was just a bad day - shame.
