“Great”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2013

If you like ancient ruins, this is a nice one as it's free and never busy. The wedge tomb at Labbacallee is the largest of all the Irish wedge tombs, known as the Hag's Bed the tomb is associated with the Celtic Hag -Goddess 'Caillech Bhearra' The gallery is covered by three massive capstones, the largest weights around ten tonnes and the tomb has three large buttress stones at the rear set parrallel to the gallery these can be seen above. The tomb is also triple walled with large stones. You can climb right inside if you like!

“Great place for a small picnic”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

We were staying in Kinsale and did a nice drive around Cork to see several attractions in a day: Labbacallee Wedge Tomb is a nice small site to stop for a little while. We brought a picnic lunch and sat on the grass next to the tomb (and definitely took away all our garbage!). There is a small plaque and if our kids had been with it they would have definitely been all over this and inside it. As boring adults we sat peacefully next to it and ate our smoked salmon and cheese sandwiches with cider. This is a large wedge tomb and worth a visit that doesn't take very long. See the megalithicireland.com site for good google maps to help you get there!

“Nice bit of ancient history, worth the drive”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2013

This is a nice bit of ancient Ireland, right next to the road, no fee, you just drive to it, look around, appreciate it for what it is, and then drive on. There is a sign adjacent which explains the basics of the site. A Cousin drove us from his home in Fermoy, and told us that in his youth he would sprinkle flour on the capstone and return the next day to check to see if Fairies had left footprints, from their night of dancing.
