“Fantastic Food, Incredible landscape”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2013

Wow, what a fantastic location. At the foothill of some massive mountains overlooking Killary bay. Picturesque scenes that give meaning to the word WOW. Add to that some of the best culinary delights my ageing body has experienced you will find the Leenane hotel an exceptionally memorial place to visit.
The Hotel rooms are very spacious, well furnished and supplied and the ones facing the bay worth every cent. There are new and older rooms - both reflective of their age. The older rooms creek that little bit more and contas older furniture. Opposite is true for the Newer rooms (Obviously).
The staff are as pleasant, friendly and effeciant as any Ive ever come accross. Always helful, obliging, funny with the banter and professional. I dont want to pick out any names as that would be a diservice to the whole team who pulled together and fed about 100 of us at a reunion. Amazing Food, Great pints of Stout, incredible Mussels (with a watery sauce to die for), peaceful, tranquil....truelly wonderful. Go visit and be prepared for wonder and excellence all around

Room Tip: MAke sure your room overlooks the bay

This hotel is set in beautiful surroundings, the scenery is by far its best feature. An old hotel, there is a lovely cosy atmosphere in the bar and reception room with open fire. We had 3 meals in the restaurant - The food was ok, the worst was the black pudding starter, which was not much more than a slice of black pudding. The restaurant itself though is very comfortable with beautiful views. The staff were very friendly and helpful at all times. They offer seaweed baths, which are only €20 and well worth it as a new experience.

We did have an unfortunate episode on our second night, when we had a leak in ceiling. The manager dealt with the whole affair badly - woke our 14 month old baby at 5am and offered nothing by way of compensation, not even a drink at the bar when we ran into him the following night. That was disappointing, but overall this hotel offers very good value for a quiet weekend away.

Stayed here with my gf after an extended stay in the are. Have to say unreal views of the lake and mountains very friendly family run hotel. The food was excellent and there was a great choice of dishes. Also availed of the seaweed baths which at 20 euro each is fantastic value. Overall for 70 euro a night it's well worth a stay will certainly be back.

We recently spent 3 great nights at the Leenane Hotel. This included B+B and 3 five course gourmet dinners. We stayed in the new part of the hotel. The room was spacious and very comfortable and the bathroom had a bath and a separate shower unit which was great. It was lovely to wake up each morning to fantastic views of the Killary Fjord and the sweeping mountain ranges. The food was excellent from the breakfasts, the pub snacks and the 5 course dinners. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back!!!!

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the new part of the hotel

We stayed here as the result of an offer in the Belfast Telegraph. The hotel is situated overlooking the Killary Fjord and the views are stunning - ask for a room with a view! The staff are very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent and well presented. From here you can easily tour the Westport/ Clifden/ Galway area. It is also a good base for walkers. The hotel is not modern or super chic but has a wonderful charm with log fires and in the laid back Connemara atmosphere you cannot help but relax! Seaweed baths are available if desired!

Room Tip: Bigger rooms are in the newer block and overlooking the water. There is no lift however - 2 storeys.

Had occasion to spend a few days in Leenane and was glad to have picked the Leenane Hotel.

Formerly an old coaching inn/ fishing lodge, it now caters for a wide variety of clients. During my stay there were quite a few lean, hardy types who were taking part in a local running/ swimming/ cycling marathon-type event. There was also a good mix of retirees and holiday makers from both Europe and the States.
My room, though compact, was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was a fairly standard buffet, though the smoked salmon with scrambled eggs was very welcome. The restaurant has a good reputation though I didn't eat there myself. There is a pleasant bar which serves a wide range of food, from snacks to full meals.
The rates at the hotel are extremely competitive and offer excellent value for money. The location is visually absolutely stunning and is ideal for those looking for somewhere as a base to 'do' Connemara, as well as being close to the pretty town of Westport and Croagh Patrick. The village of Leenane itself offers a couple of restaurants (The Blackberry is probably the best) and two traditional, welcoming pubs.
Hard to fault!

Wonderful hotel, comfortable king sized bed, large wet-room ( we were in room 2, ground floor) , patio door to outside, hospitable staff, fantastic food, beautiful dining rooms, a cosy bar and large lounge with open fire, great scenery and a great cruise on Killary Fjord. What more could you ask for? There was also live music on over the weekend though the sound proofing must be pretty good as we did'nt hear anything in our room! We used the hotel as a base to tour around and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. Would recommend the hotel to anyone wanting a mix of peace and quiet with beautiful views .

Room Tip: All four ground floor rooms are suitable for the disabled, plenty of room for a wheelchair in both t...
