“Lovely, welcoming and charming!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2012

This hotel has an incredible backdrop of rolling hills and view of the local harbour, and the building is grande with historic charm. Staff were friendly and welcoming, and room was delightful. Breakfast buffet was average, but can't complain for the 45 Euros that the night with breakfast cost! Amazing deal - highly recommended.

Here you have a historic hotel in a gorgeous setting. And from all appearances with fully booked rooms and a constant flow of people coming into the pub part with it's lovely local seafood, there should be more funds available to maintain the property.

We were given a room in the annext adjacent to the hotel. No heat and damp on the walls with mildew all around the tub and tiles. Absolutely disgusting. Spider webs in the corne of the room, etc. The window would not open and we had to get the receptionist to pry it open.

After spending one night in this hell hole, we complained and got a room in the hotel. What was the ultimate reason for no heat? The radiators needed to be bled. I kid you not!

The other thing I noticed was the staff, who are just lovely, have to do everything. Example; the front desk receptionist also was found cleaning the public areas toilets, tending bar and even had to bleed the radiators in another annex room after complaints. Of course she's doing this while someone else mans the front desk but most all the employees have to do numerous tasks.

The cleaning staff does a pitiful job, probably as they too are overworked and understaffed. I detect a greedy and/or irresponsible owner who makes his profit with specials they run and the food end of this business.

They do have a good chef and the food and service is excellent. But the accomodation end of it is shameful.

The furniture is beyond old, shabby and downright beat up. The chair nearly broke beneath my husband in the hotel's room we had. Dirt encrusted around the beautiful old sash windows in the bathroom all of which ruined what should have been a perfect stay. Oh, and bring your magnifying glass if you want to try to watch the tv, it's so small.

the most beautiful location beside killary harbour we awoke to a beautiful sun rise energised for climbing. the bar the night before was buzzing with euro soccer , service was grand ,the breakfast was very filling as we loaded up on amazing brown bread ,baked in house, but they wouldnt divulge the recipe . great for adult walkers but not child friendly ... as my mates discovered on a repeat trip

Room Tip: get a new room with fjord view

This hotel has one of the loveliest settings of any hotel we've ever been too. The views from the balcony window in the mornings is simply outstanding. The hotel itself is spotlessly clean and comfortable. The rooms were very spacious, clean and comfortable. The only down side was we couldn't put the heating on, some nights were cold, it was just to take the chill off the room, the bathroom towel rail was electric and that didn't work. The food was excellent, but the down side was the same veg with every meal. We were there for 4days and there was no change to the menu. Saying all that it is a lovely place and we will be back

Room Tip: A front facing room is a must

We have stayed in Leenane Hotel 6 or 7 times now. Whilst it is not a modern hotel, this is part of its charm! We always ask for rooms now at the front of the hotel overlooking the Fjord. Food is always excellent - as a tip I would recommend booking half board for the best deal. We always stay with our four kids aged 15yrs down to 5yrs and they all enjoy it, the staff are very accomodating to them. The hotel is a great base for visiting Westport, Croagh Patrick, Clifden and Galway - the scenery is just beautiful. Well worth a visit.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the newly renovated section and at the front of the hotel:)

We went to this hotel for three nights half board and although the hotel is a bit dowdy we had a lovely time.
The food was excellent both in the morning and five course dinner's in the evening's were very good.
The staff were wonderful and very very helpful.
The hotel is situated in a great spot close to Kyle more Abbey and Ashford castle which were both worth visiting.
The only draw back was the weather it rained the whole time we were there except for a few hours on the Saturday but we didn't let it spoil our weekend

Arrived at the Leenane hotel at 6pm with no reservation. The only room available was a single room at the rear of the hotel with no view. The room was small but very clean. The furniture in the room has been their a good few years and could never be described as modern but does suit the style of the hotel.
Room rate offered was €40 including breakfast which in my opinion was very reasonable.
Decided to have dinner in the Bar instead of the restaurant but it is the same menu. Starter and main course were fantastic. Loved it. Breakfast was equally good the following morning. Check in was quick. Service in the bar was fast and the staff were very friendly especially the big guy behind the Bar. A perfect gentleman.
For someone who spends 18 weeks a year in international chain hotels this stay was a welcome and enjoyable change.
Would I stay again. Absolutely.
