We stayed 2 nights at Sleepzone Connemara. We were greeted very nicely at the front desk and shown our room and the common areas. The property itself is a bit worn around the edges but is clean and comfortable. We had a few issues with the hot water and the heat but the manager resolved them immediately. Great service!

The kitchen and pantry are large and accommodating, and the dining area is large and has lovely views from the windows. The living room area is nice but can get crowded depending on the turnout that evening. The first night we played some of the included board games there, but the second night we stayed in the hall / Internet area and had a lovely chat with one of the employees.

It can get a little loud if there are boisterous guests around, but that is probably to be expected in a hostel. I had ear plugs and slept just fine. We got a private room, which was a little expensive but well worth it for the privacy.

Toast, tea and coffee are included for breakfast, and tea and coffee can be enjoyed all day as well. There is no hostel lock out time (which I experienced at a hostel in Scotland), although they do close the kitchen briefly for cleaning.

All in all - an excellent place to stay if you want to stay in the Leenane area. It's great to take a break from pub food and cook a meal once in a while, too!

I took the shuttle bus from Sleepzone Galway to Sleepzone Connemara in August 2006. I loved this peaceful location. Killary fjord and the Killary Adventure Centre are right beside the hostel. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. There were enough showers when I was there as the hostel was so quiet. When it's lashing rain there's not much to do except sit in with everyone else in the lounge and watch Sky TV, chat and play board games. Luckily the bar opens late afternoon. I would strongly recommend buying food before you come here as the only food you can buy there is bar food! Staff were friendly and I will definitely be visiting again soon.

“Great place!”

Sleepzone Connemara

I stayed in Sleepzone Connemara with a friend a bit before Easter Weekend. Room 8 was great and what a beautiful view! Peaceful place, lovely landscape that only the West Coast can offer and the staff were very nice and helpful aswell (young but professional). Breakfast was simple but allright and you can even cook your own food (though we should have taken something there as opposed to expecting anuthing there to be open)...

Great place, loved it and will definitely go back.

I am a professor at a State University in Michigan and for the past 2 years I have brought my class of 12 students to the Sleepzone in Connemara to regroup and debrief before heading back to the States.
I am a university professor named Joan Borst and for 2 years I have brought 12 university students to this hostel for a class retreat. The Sleepzone in Connemara is an inexpensive and convenient bus trip away from the Galway and a bus leaves from the Galway Sleepzone daily. After about an hour of a remarkable and beautiful drive through the sheep, mountains, and isolated beauty, you arrive at a lodge on the Killiary Fiord with a magnifiicant view. The staff here is friendly and state they love their jobs. The laid-back atmosphere quickly relaxes you and it is worth restating how extraordinary the views are. My favorite view is from the bright and warm dining room.

The management of the hostel has made some lovely improvements, tiled bathrooms in some of the bedrooms and a newly refurbished kitchen. With a car you can easily visit Kylemoore Abbey, Letterfrack, Inish Bofin Island , the beaches on the Atlantic and the many walking trails.

The hostel is a welcome relief from the business of Galway or a place to relax during travel. My students absolutely love this ending to the class.
