Great fishing holiday. Very comfortable room. Delicious food,. Very warm welcome from Jim and Mary and friendly athmosphere. Amazing scenery and spectacular views. You can go alone or in a group. Everyone is very friendly and you feel at home immediately. Even if you don't fish, it's well worth a visit because the walks and drives are wonderful. Looking forward to next year

What a fantastic week we had at Aasleagh Lodge. With the help and friendliness of Jim & Mary and an abundance of salmon it was a week to remember. Jim (the fishery manager) and his wife Mary ( the cook supreme, her apple pies are to die for!!!) take a keen interest in all the guests making them feel at home. The food provided by Mary is second to none - delicious.
Roll on 2012 when we hope to stay for two weeks this time.

Whilst I have stayed in the lodge before, this time myself and my wife stayed in one of the recently re-built self catering cottages located at the inland end of the Killary. For those seeking a beautiful location in a quiet corner of Ireland this surely has to fit the bill perfectly. What's more, for the salmon fisher, the river Erriff is right here and the fishing for salmon open to residents of both lodge and self-catering accommodation.

I have just returned from a visit to fish for the salmon. I can honestly say I have just experienced my best weeks salmon fishing (13 fish to 8lb) and my best single day (6 grilse) being part of this total.

The cottages are modern, decorated and furnished to a high specification, spacious and extremely comfortable as is the lodge which is a very grand Irish country house.

I can recommend the Rock (Carrick) Irish pub just down the coast road.

This was my fourteenth visit to Aasleagh Lodge, which says it all! The place is wonderful. The setting is beautiful and quiet, the rooms comfortable, well-appointed and spotless, with great bathrooms and power showers. The food - prepared by fishery manager Jim Stafford's wife Mary - is outstanding, especially if, like me, you are into sea food. In a week's visit a guest will be able to sample locally-sourced steak, pork and lamb plus a selection from turbot, brill, crab, mussels, scallops and lobster. Do not miss the last - they are 2-pounders! The vegetables often come from Jim's own garden. After-dinner coffee in the lounge in front of a peat fire makes for a good end to any day.
The Erriff is a spate river, but spates are frequent in Commemara and I have caught salmon on 12 of my 14 visits (best week 6 fish), including a cracking 9-pounder this June. The number of fish in the river this year was well up on previous years and the river is clearly heading back to being as prolific as it once was, now that the Irish drift nets have been removed. The nine beats on the river all have good fly water and their own characteristics, and rotation round them makes for very varied fishing.
Jim and Mary are friendly, helpful hosts and for angler and non-angler alike they ensure the lodge provides a unique experience.

Room Tip: The best room is the Killary Suite, with a marvellous view down the Killary fjord.

First visited the Lodge for fishing on the Erriff river in 2002 and have returned at least once a year since then. The salmon fishing has returned to top form since the removal of the offshore drift nets and the Lodge is the perfect base from which to venture forth. Jim Stafford, the fishery manager, and his wife Mary are excellent and welcoming hosts and the food they serve is all fresh, local and of top quality. Non-fishing guests mingle easily with anglers.

Room Tip: The best room has a wonderful view down the Killad
