“a memorable experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2012

This is the place we'll remember best from the whole trip. Please understand - this hotel has real character. If you don't, maybe you won't appreciate the centuries-old stone exposed by holes in the plaster, or flights of stairs needed to attain the amazing view of the cascades (waterfalls) below. The owner, Richard, was delightful, warm, wonderful, and Byrnes is right in the heart of the town, as well as a perfect location for exploring the burrens. We ate twice at the restaurant (first floor) and the foodwas wonderfulboth times.

Found this gem very much by accident . It was late 8:00pm and we were hungry. And we were 2 towns away from our cottage in Liscannor . We were on ths N85 in County Clare and we stopped in this very small village and by a stranger's suggestion we entered. It was a culinary delight. It was like being in the French countryside. The wine and the food were superb as well as our server whose father was the owner. Hope to see you guys again!

We stayed at Byrnes on spec. Great view of the magnificent falls from our room - and the roar to go with it. Very good, wholesome food and delightful owner/staff justifying 5 star billing even if rooms above are a little "underdone". Can also recommend Cooley's House for a quiet(?) drink with spontaneous music.

Stayed in Byrnes recently while attending a wedding in the nearby hotel. We really weren't sure what to expect but we were delighted that we chose to stay there as it was lovely. First of all we arrived early and the owner was very friendly and had our room ready for us so we could get ready for the wedding. The room itself was on the 3rd floor of this lovely old townhouse and was extremely spacious with a double bed, a single bed and a seating area. The beds were dressed in lovely cotton sheets and fabulous Victorian looking white cotton throws. There were 3 large windows which gave the room a bright and airy feel. The building is obviously a. Labour of love for the owners and they seem to be renovating it in bits and pieces without impacting on guests. This is a beautiful old building so it's not perfect but this all adds to its charm. The location is fabulous - it is right on the cascades and the views from the back of the building are spectacular. We were given a key for the door and told that there was no problem with whatever time we returned at and also that we could have breakfast whenever suited us the next morning - the owners are unbelievably hospitable. We had breakfast the next morning looking out over The Cascades -just perfect. This place is charming and I would have no hesitation recommending it or staying there again.

This is primarily a restaurant with 6 rooms upstairs for guests.
The accomodation is situated on the main street, directly above the waterfall.
The bathrooms have been updated in the last 5 years and the rooms have been tastefully decorated. As with any old building this means the rooms are comfy, homey and have character. Though our room did not have a closet, and could have used some fresh wallpaper, the views, food, friendliness of staff, and overall locations MORE than makes up for it.
I would call this the best deal going on the West Coast of Ireland.
The owner made our breakfast each morning, and even gave us directions and suggestions for things to do. Breakfast was a full Irish breakfast...with fresh homemade orange marmalade. (He should sell the stuff.)
This location was perfect for a full day of the Cliffs of Moher, the Burren, and if we had had time we probably would have added a few other things in...
They have probably the best restaurant during our visit to Ireland (better than Waterford castle in my opinion- stuffy & typical cuisine) and dinners always include specials, including local fish and desserts. We had sea bream and rhubarb crisp one day..YUM. We chose to eat here both nights, because it was so good. The staff was friendly but not invasive. At the end of our stay they gave us the package room + breakfast + dinner, even though we had only initially planned on the room + breakfast. A really superb arrangement.
Free parking, if you can get it. Dont check in at dinnertime and you should be able to find a spot in the Byrnes car park.
The hotel has just put in wireless internet, so you can map your drive for the next day.
Due to old walls and 3 stories of building, the internet was spotty in areas, but we had perfectly acceptable reception in the dining area, and enough to get the things we needed done in our room. (after all your on vacation, what do you really need your computer for?)

Room Tip: We were friends, and chose the twin room facing the waterfall, and slept to the sound of water.

It's an old in on the main street in Ennistymon. So the hot water is a bit slow and the heat wasn't much, and the plaster needs work. But the room was clean and comfortable, the price was right (45 euros in early May / 11) and included a delicious "full Irish" breakfast cooked up for me by Richard Byrne hisself, and some good conversation. I didn't try dinner on the restaurant but the menu looked really good with a seafood slant. I'd stay there again for sure.

Rarely feel strongly enough to write a review but this place is a real delight.Arrived after a great day in the Burren expecting little more than a bed for the night ,only to find that the best was yet to come.Great food and a very convivial atmosphere. The ambience is worth a trip on its own.Pity it doesn't open in the winter as it would make an ideal "retreat".
