I travel a lot - worldwide - and I stay in many top hotels.
This really is a very nice hotel. Built around an old manor house (which has beautiful grounds and gardens) and facing the pretty town of Ennistymon and a set of waterfalls descending from the town, after which the hotel is named, it really is a striking setting. The old manor house has some very lovely rooms. The more modern extension to the hotel is somewhat of a warren - but a completely wheelchair accessible warren. The hotel was to my view very child friendly (though I suppose if you want your child to be able to run riot on say the immaculate lawn when there is a play area they might be unhappy!
The spa is the 'real deal' a 20m (70 foot) rectangular pool with a constant depth of 1.35m (4+ feet) with a childrens' side pool of non-yellow water of a depth a little over 0.35m (1 foot), and indoor and outdoor jacuzzi's (well chlorinated) in a well ventilated space with a view of the river - large steam room and sauna and a good gym - free-weights, 3 types of weight-benches, machines, a variety of cardio machines - with 2 or 3 of each type. The pool has cascades and other features for the kids - they do not turn these on in the morning when adults tend to be swimming laps as it leads the kids to gather in the lanes. In short, this is a real pool you can swim properly in, a real gym, and a steam room 5-6 people could use at a time + a sauna - and then a nice outside area to run.
The hotel caters for a lot of weddings, conferences, golfing groups and coach parties - it is near many major sights like the Cliffs of Moher and for the golfers Lahinch Golf Course, one of the worlds best (as well as several others.) As a result, breakfast is a large but pretty good buffet - with the usual range of bacon, eggs, etc. but also cold cuts, cereals, breads and so fort. It can be very bustling in the morning, with the occasional hung-over survivor of the nights wedding. The breakfast food is good - the quality of the ingredients high.
I attended a wedding - and arrived a little too late for lunch. However, the hotel does a carvery lunch (i.e., a lot of roasts, carved to order.) The great thing about this is that when I ordered several rounds of sandwiches for family members and me that had missed lunch, the sandwiches were made with in-house roasted ham, chicken, corned beef, beef and turkey and were really very good. The wedding meal was good, the ingredients being of a very high quality and not ruined by the cooking. I did not eat in the restaurant, but the a la carte menu looked excellent.
My room was spacious and very clean. The shower worked and the WiFi in the hotel, while not the fastest, works pretty well everywhere and did allow me to send largish e-mails. The hotel is as I said somewhat of a warren, but for those who ask about these things, at least in the modern part is comprehensively wheelchair accessible. Nice view from the window too.
The staff were very pleasant and efficient and constantly cleaning. When I was there on a Thursday night in August, the place was packed, but the staff still managed to keep up. This is not a 7-star hotel so don't expect the service to be instant and obsequious, but they get it done and look after the guests well - but you are not paying anything like 7-star prices. They all seemed like very nice people.
The wedding was a civil ceremony, which only became easy in Ireland in the last decade or so - and there may still be people who disapprove of civil ceremonies. Not as far as I could tell the Falls, who made sure the ceremony went beautifully and without a hitch.
I would wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the area.
All seemed good - maybe some have a view of the Falls? But mine had a nice view

This review is amazing! I have passed it on to all of the different departments in our hotel and it has been posted up in our staff canteen. This is the very reason we are in the hospitality industry to make guests like yourself leave with a huge smile on their face!
Where do we start at all as you have given huge praise to almost every single element of our hotel facilities and services.
As often the case our location, our grounds and our historic building immediately put you in great form from the beginning of your visit.
Our River Spa and leisure club facilities made your smile grow further. A proper gym and pool are key especially when exercise and fitness are so important to many of our guests.
Your experience with our food on offer was also a pleasurable one. The breakfast in our Cascades restaurant set the tone and the quality continued when you order freshly made roast sandwiches from our carvery menu in the Dylan Thomas Bar. The wedding meal also impressed you and it's great to see you impressed with our range of local ingredients.
Our staff were also highlighted for attention and your compliments are again appreciated. We try out utmost to look after every individual and to make sure their stay is as comfortable and relaxing as possible.
These are only a few of the positives you refereed to and to be honest it's just a pleasure to respond to such an excellent review. I also really appreciate your recommendation of our hotel on this site and to all your family and friends.
I hope this is the first of many visits to the Falls Hotel & Spa.
