On arrival here, we knew we were in for a treat.
The lobby is plush, clean and well decorated. Check in was smooth enough. There was a slight issue with the voucher code, which caused a problem on check-out however for now all was fine.
The room was huge, a kingsize double and a single in the room along with a table and chairs. TV had Saorview channels (Irish version of Freeview) so not exactly spoiled for choice there. Beds were really comfortable and the bedding was of a pretty high quality.
The bathroom was also a good size with a decent shower, however the loo wasn't very secure on the floor and wobbled slightly when one sat down. Not a major issue for us, but still something that needs attention.
The hotel has a lovely pool and fitness centre, and the pool is well used by the other families there. It's good to see that the sauna and steam room are strictly reserved for over 16s only so you don't have to put up with kids in there!
We opted to head to nearby Lahinch for dinner both evenings we spent here, so our dining experiences were only breakfast and it's fair to say it was great. Huge selections in cereals, breads, pastries, fruit and of course, a great cooked breakfast too, it's not quite self service here, you tell the staff-member how many of each cooked item you want and it's plated up for you. I guess it stops people helping themselves to all the sausages! Another plus is that porridge was available too.
On check-out, the receptionist advised that there was a problem with the voucher code (she had taken the code down incorrectly, it transpired) and asked if it could be re-sent. As my wife's phone was dead she asked if she could use a terminal to re-send it. She was directed to a pay to use computer. Given that this was to address a mistake by the receptionist, I think it's a little unfair to ask a guest to pay to rectify this.
When my wife enquired about availability of smoking rooms and disable access, the receptionist was unhelpful with her responses, giving minimal information and seemingly in a hurry to finish the transaction, despite no other guests awaiting her attention. Pretty rude.
Despite this, I'd still recommend the hotel, after all, one can tolerate a rude person for the couple of moments it takes to check in/out. It's in a beautiful location and there is so much to see and do in the area.
