“Clean But Overpriced”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2008

I stayed here with my partner in July 2008.

Good points:
The house is lovely.
I's near the town and you could walk it in the daytime.
The rooms are clean and spacious.
Breakfast was nice.

Bad points:
Walking at night time along the road can be dangerous as part of the road has no footpath.

It was impossible to find someone for service as the people don't actually live in the house. One day we tried at 4 various times to ring the assistance buzzer and no-one came.

The pricing system is bizarre: 2 people in 1 double room, price 65 euro per person per night. 1 person per room (also double) 65 euro. It actually costs the same to book 2 separate double rooms as it would to book 1 double room with 2 people in it and actually a friend of ours stayed in a bigger double room by herself and paid only 60€. My advice is to book 2 rooms and use one for luggage and for the extra towels in case you can't find assistance.

It was overpriced for a B&B and at 130€ a night for 2 people sharing you would get a hotel with 24 hour service and other facilities for less or a normal B&B that charges B&B prices.

The Dough Mor Lodge was an excellent accommodation. Our room was very comfortable, lots of hot water, full control of room temperature. The sitting room was very accessible and comfortable--we were even given full use of the kitchen and laundry facilities. The location is great to get to the Aran Island, Doolin, Cliffs of Moher. Jim Foley, the proprietor, was always around to give directions and helpful information. Every restaurant he recommended was terrific. The breakfasts were terrific--way too much choice!!!!!

This was my first trip back to Lahinch in about 10 years and it couldnt have been spent at a better place than the Dough Mor. Jim and Bernie were the perfect hosts and nothing was trouble for them. The rooms were some of the nicest I've ever stayed in. The bathroom was large and very nicely decorated. Breakfast was definately worth getting up for as you could have practically anything you wanted and was served until 10am, which is good if you've been out on the town the night before. The only tiny miniscule complaint you could have about the Dough Mor is that its about 10-15 minutes walk to the centre of Lahinch but like I said this is only something really really small.

Hospitality was First-rate at this guest house. We arrived tired and were immediately welcomed with a friendliness you just don't see much anymore. Our rooms were very nice and the showers were the best we had in our entire 2 week stay in Ireland. The dining room and lounge area were lovely and very comfortable. Jim & Bernie were incredible hosts and we enjoyed visiting with them.

Highly recommend.
