“Fabulous!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2013

We stayed at this hotel as part of a package deal and were very pleased, indeed!. It's very luxurious and they gave us an upgrade. There are many activities that you can do at an extra charge, archery, skeet shooting, golf and falconry lessons. They also have free bikes to use to explore the large grounds. The "Hawk Walk" with falconer David Atkinson was the highlight of my stay, a once in a lifetime experience that I will always remember. I highly recommend this extra!!

The staff was great, they remembered us, found my scarf and returned it to my room. It's the little things that make it memorable. The staff was that perfect Irish blend of seriousness and aloofness and then you talk to them and they are gracious and down to earth.

Loved it!

Driving through the golf course you are soon able to see the castle through the trees. The building is amazing. The grounds are breathtaking, and the service cannot be topped. Every one has a smile and is eager to help you. The wifi seems strong throughout the castle. We sat outside the cocktail bar at the fire place for some time. We did not get to enjoy the hot tub but it looked so relaxing. The room was so nice and well decorated. The bathrooms was so large compared to many hotel bathrooms. We would definitely stay there again if we are ever in Ireland again. It was a wonderful experience. We had room 105 and the only draw back was at night what ever room was above us has constant activity.

Room Tip: Room 105 had hotel traffic above

We stayed for two nights in October. The property is beautiful and the staff was excellent, Our deluxe room was very large and beautifully decorated. We had dinner one night in The Earl of Thormond restaurant, Very good dinner with attentive service. The first night we had burgers and Dingle crab claws in the lounge near the fire ...very cozy. The falconry experience was wonderful and I would highly recommend it. Walking the beautiful grounds with Dave and his gorgeous birds and landing them on your arm is a once in a lifetime experience! Also did the jaunting car ride and that was lovely! The history of the castle and the grounds told to us by our guide added so much to our stay!
Dromoland Castle is a lovely place and a memory we will treasure,

We had not been to Dromoland Castle for a number of years, so we took advantage of the two night plus dinner offer which looked like good value. The property is in superb condition, better than when we were there previously, the first impression is that this is a high class hotel that is very well maintained.
First impressions are made by Reception staff and they were exemplary, from seamless check-in to valet parking.
The room was very well appointed and extremely comfortable, but with a slight problem with heating, which was resolved in a matter of minutes.
On to the cocktail bar, where we received a cheery welcome from Frank before heading in for a superb dinner, accompanied by a helpful wine choice suggested by Maitre d' Tony, from an extensive list.
We had planned to eat somewhere else locally on the second night but we were so impressed first time that we returned and were even more satisfied on our second visit.
Dromoland is a super venue, now very accessible by motor-way and in a blissful setting. We will be returning very soon.

You arrive at the gates to a winding driveway through the extensive grounds, your first view is of the lake then as you turn the corner there it is the Castle, what a lovely view. Peaceful and nostalgic. You drive past the golf course and the club house (where you can eat, we did not. It also has the leisure facilities. We just did not have the time to try these out). The car park is to one side of the property and then its just a short walk to the main entrance. As you go through the main doors you are greeted by the warm and very friendly staff.

After checking in we were taken down the winding hall ways up a flight of stairs of the gallery (which leads to the main restaurant, sitting rooms and the bar, more about these later) and down another corridor to our room. WOW is the first thing that came to mind when we shown into the room which was overlooking the fountain at the front of the castle. The room was very spacious, very clean and beautifully furnished with all matching units. The bathroom was very spacious with his and hers sinks, a bath with shower and also a separate shower as well. Robes and slippers are supplied along with quality toiletries.

After enjoying the opulence of the room we went down for a cup of tea. We sat in the drawing room over looking the grounds and the temple forest. The tea was served in a silver tea set (it made a lovely change to have loose tea rather than the usual tea bags).

I was next treated to a wonderful massage in the spa. The atmosphere was very relaxing and the staff were fantastic. A good choice of treatments are available. We both left feeling wonderful and relaxed.

Dinner was in the main restaurant The Earl of Thomond. Wonderful choice on the menus and be prepared for a bit of reading when you are given the wine list. All the staff were fantastic, very welcoming, very professional, nothing was too much trouble. Retired for the evening and had a wonderful nights sleep, very quiet and peaceful.

Breakfast, well, come down early as you will need the time to devour the sumptuous feast that you will be presented with. Everything you could think of and then some. Feeling extremely satisfied we went out for the day.

We treated ourselves to a fabulous afternoon tea. Wonderful selection of finger sandwiches and pastries.

We had the Nostalgic tasting menu with wine paring for our dinner (8 fantastic courses). Well worth it, experiencing the skills of the catering staff. Outstanding, well done, could not fault it at all.

Next morning, I was treated to some archery lessons, great fun even in the rain (on and off) The gentleman who took us for the lesson was brilliant he took you through the stance and how to hold the bow and made you feel relaxed and confidant. Of course my wife let me win as it was my birthday!!!!!!!

Over all could not fault the hotel at all. the décor some might say is dated, I don't agree, it fits in perfectly with the surroundings, the flock wallpaper deep coloured carpets etc. If it was crisply decorated to a modern hotel style it would ruin the ambiance of the castle.

All I can say is a big thank you to all the staff who made our stay so wonderful and many happy memories. I would be very happy to stay here for the rest of my life and be pampered in this fashion.

We stayed one night at Dromoland and were so impressed with the grounds, accommodations and service. I wish we could have stayed a week! When we arrived (on a quiet week night in the beginning of the off season, to be fair) we were given an upgrade to a deluxe room with two double beds and large sitting area with a view of the lough. Really lovely. The doorman took our bags, showed us to our room and parked our car. Dinner in the gallery was good, not incredible. Breakfast the next morning is not to be missed - silver and china and white glove service, literally.

When we awoke the next morning, we discovered a flat tire. The staff whisked the car down to the village for us (while we enjoyed breakfast) and it was back, fixed, within an hour. So helpful!!

Finally, the shower! Ahhh, triple water pressure better than my own at home. And American power outlets too!

We didn't find any of the negative comments on this page to be true - grounds, furniture, service and food was all top notch. It will be a stop on our next trip for sure!!

I spent 2 nights here with a few friends. The welcome, food and facilities were first class. The restaurant is called the Earl of Thomond and Tony the Manager really took good care of us. Our rooms were (and this is an old castle!!) spotless and well appointed. Breakfast the following morning was misleading in it's description (it should have been called meal for the day!) It was huge and very tasty. We did some clay shooting after breakfast and enjoyed a round of golf. I wish we had more time here.

Room Tip: ask for a room in the tower over reception - its close to the bar.
