“A Place to Exhale”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2013

Sometimes you just want to relax and unwind on vacation. This is a good place for that. Where your comfy clothes but be in a castle, eat in a beautiful room with wonderful service drink great wine then just chill in front of a fireplace, no driving or crowds or waiting in line. Take a walk through the woods, play golf then have a cocktail or have 4 o'clock tea on a comfy couch. Still don't have to drive anywhere else. Really nice big rooms and peace and quite at night. You can take a drive if you like through the back roads and get wonderfully lost or drive up to the ocean side see the Cliffs of Moher then come back and relax. Have a nice big Irish breakfast in the morning before you go. Bunratty is close by with the Wooleen Mill for a spot of shopping and a delightful lunch. You can even drive up to Galway for the day or Limirick all close enough for day trips. But really if you cant mange that staying here is enough to soothe the soul. Loved it.

Room Tip: We had a room on the ground floor and could open the windows at night , delightful.

We stayed here two nights here for a birthday gathering, and were intoxicated by the Irish welcome, sadly lost from some of the corporate chains in Dublin. The rooms were all a good size, with very comfortable beds. Tea by the roaring fire was fantastic, and endless supply of proper leaf tea served by a most agreeable man who appeared by telepathy every time we needed him.

We have been going to Dromoland for years on special occasions- my fiancé even proposed to me there and we have never had a bad experience! The food and service are always faultless. I especially love it in the winter, with its roaring open fires. I would recommend that you go for the upgrade on the standard rooms- many of the Queen Anne rooms are in the new wing and there is quite frankly, a huge difference between them and the next highest in price. They always use local, seasonal produce in their food- lots of game and a very extensive wine list. Highly recommended.

Great grounds, lots to do on sunny days. Wifi not working in the rooms, this was frustrating as we were trying to decide on cliffs of moher that day or the following based on weather and other things. We spent 30 minutes with the staff trying to work out the Internet to no avail. Decided to go to the jacuzzi but it was in need of chlorine and closed down so we had to go to the golf club. King bed is two twins pushed together. I didnt notice but it is something to note. Beds were nice pillow tops!

Dear RN2travel365

With regard to our WiFi, unfortunately on that particular day our provider was experiencing a major problem which affected the entire region, I would hope that we made every effort to mimimize the inconvenience to you.

The jacuzzi needs to be treated on a regular basis, I do apologize that this clashed with your plans for use. I hope you enjoyed the jacuzzi and leisure facilities in the golf and country club.

In a lot of instances we use a 'zip and link' system which allows us flexibility to deal with specific requests from guests with regard to bedding. Again, I hope this didn't cause you any discomfort.

Finally, I am delighted you enjoyed the grounds and found it beautiful but sorry to hear you did feel you got value for money.

Sincerely

Mark Nolan - General Manager

When we pulled in to Dromoland, there was a no-joke fox hunting party riding up the driveway... horses and hounds trotting along against a backdrop of rolling green hills and an enormous turreted castle. It's still one of the prettiest things I think I've ever seen - it was almost surreal. While there may not be a hunting party every day, the castle and grounds are always spectacular. The service is impeccable and the rooms are beautiful and spacious. Unfortunately, our room seemed to be under the kitchen and it was really noisy all night, like sleeping beneath a muffled bowling alley. The castle is huge and invites exploration, and the grounds are dotted with little treasures - lily ponds and gazebos and little stone houses. We didn't participate in any of the activities there -- golf, archery, falconry, etc -- but we saw the facilities and this place is just 5 stars all the way.

My husband and I spent one night at Dromoland Castle which happened to be our 27th wedding anniversary. The first view of the castle on the lane driving in is spectacular!! We learned upon checking in that our room had been upgraded from a standard to deluxe room due to our special occasion!! Our room, 105, had a lovely view of the front gardens and golf course. It was a bit noisey as I believe that the kitchen or dining room was directly above us but not a problem really. There was a very nice box of chocolates along with a letter from the manager acknowledging our occasion. VERY NICE TOUCH!!! The walled gardens are stunning! The staff is cheerful and helpful. The Waterford chandeliers are numerous and beautiful and sparkle like diamonds due to the never ending cleaning I am guessing. Loved this place! I wish to go back someday : )

My wife and I and a friend spent our last night on an eight night tour of the southern half
of Ireland (Erin). The trip was arranged by Journey through Ireland tour and a wonderful
tour it was. Dromoland is just a magnificent hotel not to be missed with great personnel,
great rooms and great restaurants. It also has terrific grounds, a terrific garden, tennis
courts and a golf course and driving range that are off the charts. I would highly recommend
this terrific property to everyone. It is a 5 star hotel so expect to pay 5 star prices.
