“Fabulous castle”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2013

We intended to stay 3 nights at Drommoland, but extended our stay for two extra nights. At first I was disappointed as our room was in a newer extension to the castle. Although the room was large and very attractive, it wasn't the "castle experience" that I was expecting. The front desk personnel were very accommodating and we were able to move into the castle itself (with a slight increase in price). We felt it was worth every penny. We had a large corner room which was large enough for our family of four. We enjoyed the pool and also rented golf carts to drive around the property. We opted to have a light dinner around the fireplace outside the main dining room and bar. It was very cozy and much less pricey. The breakfast was wonderful in the main dining room. The bar is very atmospheric and lovely. All in all a great end to our two weeks in Ireland

Room Tip: Be sure to ask if you want to be in the castle itself If you reserve on a booking service, you will...

I had always wanted to stay at Dromoland
and during the first week in April with
my wife and two year old daughter I got
the opportunity. Everything was just right.
The Deluxe Room was very nice with the
widest bed I have ever seen. The included
breakfast was fantastic as was our formal
dinner at the Earl of Thomond restaurant.
The Guinness even tasted better here.
We took a boat out on the lake for a relaxing afternoon. Please take the
Pony and Trap ride around the premises
If you get the chance. Our driver Sean was
a fabulous story teller. It was a very entertaining experience. A special thank
thank goes out to our housekeeper Zyn
who was so nice and sweet to our daughter
Birdie. Please stay here!

Checked into Dromoland Castle after a diverted flight to Shannon Airport. Signature FBO said it would be a great close by luxury property. They were right that it was a convenient 10 minute ride. The rest was more akin to a two star property that was in desperate need of a facelift and tummy tick f not liposuction. Yikes! Checked into a third floor Castle suite and was greeted by dated furniture a 90 degree roaster of a room. The room nearby was using the shower which sounded like Niagara Falls coupled with a coyote howl. The kind gentlemen who took my bags agreed with the very high temperature and commiserated that there were no heating controls but came back later and helped open the creaky window and showed up with a large wrench and began to work on the radiator to turn it off entirely since the "control knob on radiator doesn't work". While he was banging the wrench, I went down to check out the dinner options hoping to find a sports bar in the castle and grab and light Mel. Was told that no food could be served in the bar ( empty past six pm for some unknown and they offered a drab library ( Gallery) or an adjacent hallway with a to top next to a downspout view window. Finally got seated and ordered a terrific burger with local cheese and suddenly 60 cocktailing NY lumber conventioneers surrounded me in the hallway outside the bar cackling lowly about their horrible hot room accommodations and no hot water etc.
For the next hour , I sat surrounded by the roaring din of disappointed castle goers complaining about the castle and their apprehension about their ensuing private dinner.

In short, neat old place that doesn't show very well in a recession.

You really must treat yourself to this property! The grounds are meticulously landscaped, the decor is old world tasteful, the restaurant magnificent and the staff are impeccable. We stayed for 3 nights and enjoyed all that was offered. From golf to falconry we really enjoyed our visit. We stayed in room 314 in the oldest part of the castle and we weren't disappointed- beautiful! Everyone goes out of their way to make your stay special and you feel as though you are the only ones there because each patron is catered to for all your needs. I recommend the spa for a Pevonia facial-such a treat! A special thanks to the staff for helping us when my husband became ill unexpectedly over the Easter holiday. Made us feel like family and we are truly grateful. We hope one day to return and enjoy the castle again!

Room Tip: If you can reserve the McDonough stateroom (314) you won't be disappointed!

We spent two nights one of which was St Patrick's night in this luxury castle/hotel. The staff are wonderful and make all guests feel very welcome. The rooms are spotless and well laid out to make guests feel very comfortable. Breakfast which was included in our stay was freshly cooked and well presented. The lounge area is also very comfortable to relax in. If you get an opportunity visit this wonderful hotel which is situated in an amazing location and watch out for the special offers which appear on their website from time to time.

The hotel was amazing. All rooms were perfectly equipped and the housekeeping was really nice. Perfect golf course and the best thing was the lake. Take the chance to rudder around in the lake.
The prices are high, but it's worth. I will come back.
