“dinner at the thatch”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2012

Pub food done well. Cosy atmosphere, good food. We had beef fillet with a nice pepper sauce which was impeccably cooked.22 euros, which is expensive by pub standards, but the portions are extremely generous.Lovely properly crispy home made chips. Friendly staff and good service.
Would recommend it. As it was monday night we had to eat earlier than we would have liked(7.30), but a small point only

“Excellent in every way!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2012

Not sure what happened during lucanIreland's visit, as our table booking was for 7.30pm and they were very definitely open!

I was given a gift voucher for The Thatch last Christmas, by a family member who knows we love eating there, but rarely find the time or spare cash to spoil ourselves these days - I decided to keep the voucher for a special occasion (wedding anniversary) but when I lifted the phone to book our meal last week, I was horrified to notice that the voucher had an expiry date, and we were past it. However, the lovely gentleman who took my call said this absolutely wasn't a problem, and to bring it along on the night, and not to give it a second thought. I was very impressed, not many businesses, in this recession, would willingly honour an out-of-date voucher for a significant amount of money.

From the moment we arrived, to the point where we begrudgingly made our way home, we were made to feel so very welcome. Nothing was too much bother, and all the staff virtually fell over themselves to ensure we had everything we wanted. They make you feel like you're the only customer there, and that nothing is too much bother...even though the restuarant was full, not a spare seat/table to be seen...again, given it was mid-week, in a recession, that surely shows that an establishment that consistently delivers great food and excellent service will always be popular.

As always the food was sublime, cooked to perfection, and as always we couldn't help ourselves from eating too much! Driving home, feeling full after a wonderful meal - its a great feeling!

Dislikes? In my opinion there is absolutely nothing to dislike about this place! The food is excellent, the atmosphere is excellent, and the staff are always excellent, helpful and unfailingly friendly. I only dislike the fact that I can't eat there more often!
