“clean and comfortable with very good bar food.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2014

we stayed for one night. room spacious and clean with a decent ensuite. tv could do with a serious upgrade. We ate in the bar - both of us had the burger -very large portions and tasty. menu and specials looked very good. breakfast was also very good with a good choice both cold and warm. we did not use the leisure centre. Only issue apart from tv was the bed - was not very comfortable. staff very friendly.

Stayed here on business and very disappointed that many things had not improved since highlighted in june 2013 breakfast still very poor served lukewarm and unappetising look room had outdated tv no remote control and despite request to reception none was supplied no hairdryer in room these things are hardly rocket science We loved the leisure facilities and staff there well done on that I am at a loss to comment further on issues that are really basic to a comfortable stay after a 3 and a half hour journey There was also a leak in the en suite which left a very damp floor but who cared

myself and my boyfriend stayed here for 2 nights midweek. we had a wonderful stay, the hotel was beautiful and we really enjoyed ourselves. the hotel was just two mins from the town, walking distance but maybe not in heels! :P the staff were absolutely brilliant, they couldn't have been nicer, especially Ros on reception, she was so pleasant and welcoming, really made us feel at home! :) all the staff were a credit to the hotel! the leisure centre was great also, nice and quiet too so we could fully relax! :) and the food was gorgeous as well! we don't have a bad word to say about the hotel and we would definitely go back there again! :D

We booked a two night stay through groupon. Offaly wouldn't usually be on the traditional tourist trail, but we were looking for a bit of relaxation in a hotel with a good sports club, the gym and pool here are excellent. The food is also delicious and fairly priced. The hotel itself is pretty nice and the staff very friendly. I suppose if we were looking to nitpick it would be that there was no music in the bar (live or recorded) and the TV in the room was a bit past its best. Other than that we had a great time and would recommend to anybody looking a relaxing break.

Had bar food dinner here and it was excellent. Staff very helpful and they go out out of there way to help you. You would know that this hotel is a family run hotel as they take pride in what they do.
Will be returning at some stage.

This is a really lovely property located on stunning grounds just outside the town. It is a very striking hotel with a long drive up and when we arrived it was over Christmas and there was lights covering the trees and building - very pretty ! The staff are absolutely lovely here. So nice and very accommodating. They genuinely care, and that is lacking in so many properties nowadays ! There has been a lot of investment in this hotel over the past few years and it is evident throughout with beautiful lobby / restaurant and bar areas. The bedrooms are generally good, however I had a couple of issues. 1. The tv is an old box set - why spend millions on a refurb and skip the tvs ?? 2. We had no remote for the tv (but there was one sent up straight away). The bed was not in great condition - it sloped towards the middle so we both slept badly and woke with a sore back. 3. We had a 'do not disturb' sign on our room as we had a late check-out. After breakfast we were having a lie down and a man with a swipe card (obviously staff) let himself into our room before mumbling 'sorry'and running. This is unacceptable and intolerable that any member of staff in any hotel, not least a four star, would enter a room which is not only occupied, but has a DO NOT DISTURB sign on the door. Breakfast was absolutely delicious. Cooked to order and served by a very pleasant waitress. It was probably the best breakfast I have eaten in any hotel this year (over 13!) To be honest I would have given the hotel a four star (excellent) rating, but for the bed, the tv and the guy entering our room...Otherwise, this is a super property in a lovely little town (check out the pubs - they are really super !) and we will most definitely return !

Room Tip: I think they have executive rooms so perhaps request one of these so maybe you will get a flat scree...

We attended a wedding at the County Arms. From the moment we check in, we knew we were going to have a great time. The Staff, each and every member are all on the same team and make you feel you are the only guest there.

The wedding reception with canapés such as crispy duck, lamb cutlets, pigs in blankets, smoked salmon and on and on. Then we sat down to a five star, five course menu. Then for anyone who might have been hungry, there was a hot and cold fork buffet.

This is the place for a wedding.

Room Tip: Bring a pair on trousers two inches bigger after all that great food!
