My husband and I were referred to Headley Crt by the owner of Ashgrove B&B. It was our last night in Ireland before flying out of Shannon airport, 10 minutes drive away. Who would expect to find such a pleasant place to stay so close to an airport? Of the 10 B&Bs/mid-rangehotels we stayed in during our trip this ranked tied at the top (with Daly House in Doolin). Young owner Katherine Browne was knowledgeable about the airport situation (recent bomb scares), and pointed out the short cut to the airport. She also prepared a nice fruit & bread plate since our early flight meant we would miss breakfast. The room was very quiet, with an excellent bed and a very good shower. Hair dryer too. And wash cloths (mostly absent everywhere else). We enjoyed our dinner at Durty Nellies Pub, which is a genuinely cool, unassuming old place (1600's) with sawdust strewn over the floor. This B&B would make a good place to arrive for your first night or two in Ireland: get over your jet lag and check out the Burren region while you're at it. Without a car, though, you will have to get a taxi from the airport.
