The Castle Garden Townhouse assigned to our family of four was not clean, and 3 of the radiators were not operational. The "generator" that powered the radiators made a very loud noise that sounded as though a small plane was landing on the roof; the sound repeated every 20 to 30 seconds. Our adult children had difficulty sleeping due to the noise and lack of heating. The hotel desk was contacted and an employee was sent to repair the radiators, but he was unable to do so. The 3 full bathrooms were extremely dirty. The radiators that were operational worked well. There was always plenty of hot water for showers, as each shower generated it's own. The kitchen, which we didn't use for anything more than storing sodas and milk in the fridge, was complete with cooking utensils, pots & pans, dinnerware and flatware. A dishwasher, washing machine, and microwave were included. The full breakfast, in the main hotel's dining room, was extensive, but after our son found several long hairs in his scrambled eggs one morning, we stayed away from the breakfast buffet! The townhouse was conveniently located to the Bunratty Folk Park, Durty Nelly's Pub, and The Creamery Restaurant. We were able to walk to each of these locations for meals and shopping. The hotel staff was friendly and accommodating. We were able to take advantage of wi-fi service in the large public area of the hotel, where there were plenty of chairs, sofas, and tables. Wi-fi could not be accessed from the townhouse. Overall, the accommodation was only adequate, and we all agreed we would not stay at this location again.

  • Liked — each bedroom had a full bathroom
  • Disliked — lack of cleanliness and inoperable radiators

My advise - if you wanna stay there ask for a room in the newer part of the hotel and don't bother having breakfast. We were a group of 11 staying there over a weekend and a few of us were allocated rooms which were mouldy, smelly and tiny..where a few others got lovely big rooms which seem to be newly refurbished rooms as they even had a couch and proper haridryer in the room. Mmhhh?? Buffet breakfast was below miserable I have to say...even the hot section (Irish breakfast) looked like it was lying there for days (especially the black and white pudding) and apart from that there was only a few cereals & juices available. The hotel can't even manage to put some fresh fruits on the buffet...now that's real miserable in my view. On a brighter note - the pool is real nice, but that's about it. I'd also like to mention the efficency of the reception staff - 1. check in: assign you a room that's already occupied by someone else who just happened to come out of the shower 2. Local knowledge: send you up the road for something that isn't there (in a village that is so tiny it doesn't even have chipper) 3. check out: trying to charge you again for the room that was pre-paid.....what TV series comes to mind??? (-;

Stayed at the Hotel twice. The first time was at the end of a Guided Tour. PROS: The check in was flawless and the Staff very accomadating. Dinner that evening, with the tour group was very good. We had a 100 series room the first time and it was O.K. The bathroom was larger than I expected. Very clean as was the room. The second stay was a week later after we had been traveling by car all over Ireland. We received a 400 series room this time. The room was larger as was the bathroom. Again very clean. We never had breakfast there but I have no doubt it would have been acceptable. The location is excellent, a short stroll to the Castle, shopping or other restaurants. Only ten minutes from Shannon Airport. CONS: The general condition of the rooms we stayed in. They need to be maintained at a higher level. The 400 series room had several items in the Bathroom that were broken including the toilet paper holder. There was a table and two chairs in the room. The chairs did not match and the furniture was scrateched and banged up. In general this is a Hotel worth staying at even with its flaws. I would stay here again.

Stayed at the Shamrock Hotel last week. Was weary after travelling from Mayo on the way to LImerick so myself and my husband decided to stop off at the hotel. On entering we received a warm welcome from the receptionist, our room was not ready yet as the hotel was busy from the night before and we were early. The Manager offered us tea or coffee in the lobby while we waited, within minutes we were having tea & biscuits by the cosy fire. I could have sat there all day watching people pass by in the busy lobby. We received our key and our room was also cosy and clean. That evening we strolled down to Bunratty Village, a lovely village and had dinner in Nellies, a bustling spot.
Check out next morning was busy but with no delays, the Manager asked us how was our stay and when he would see us again. As it happened we would be in Shannon Airport in January. He checked availabilaity for us and offered us a reasonable rate and joked he'd have the tea ready. Looking forward to stay there again.

Just back from a excellent week-end stay at the Shannon Shamrock. I booked this hotel as a Super-valu break and was more than a little apprehensive after reading the reviews of the past few months. I expressed my concerns to the girl on the desk by phone two days previous and she was very helpful and I felt maybe all was not lost. When we arrived there we were told by the same very helpful girl we had been compilmentary upgraded to the The Garden Holiday Homes which were directly behind the Hotel and only built a year earlier. We had three bedrooms two which were ensuite and a very nice sitting room complete with a TV and DVD player. We had use of the hotel Fitness centre and swimming pool which my 14 year old teenager (who is very hard to please ) enjoyed very much. The food in Pj's restuarant was delicious on both nights, Steak and trimmings cooked to perfection and the desserts were mouth-watering. The Hotel itself is built a while but is kept spotlessly clean and the staff were more then helpful and friendly to us and I would stay there again and I would also recommend this hotel to my friends and family.
