“Superb”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2012

Dined alone in this restaurant last night. I was immediately made to feel very welcome by the waitress - she was friendly without being 'gushy'. I had the early bird (served until 9pm midweek). A selection of breads with the most wonderful fennel and olive pesto was quickly followed by calamari. Calamari in many restaurants can seem like Mr Dunlop's rejects and for that reason I usually avoid it. In this restaurant though it was done to perfection and served with an excellent chilli jam. The main course was fried off belly of pork. Absolutely delicious.
What is flantastic about this restaurant is their ability to turn very low cost ingredients (squid and belly of pork) into a fantastic and memorable meal. There is true skill in this kitchen.
Well done, and I wish I lived closer.

“Special meal out”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2012

Myself & my husband spent 2 nights in the Killaloe/Ballina area and booked a table in the Cherry Tree restaurant for last night. When we arrived, we were shown to a window table with lovely views of the river.
We chose the 5 course meal for €35pp. And we were not disappointed! Soup, blackpudding terrine, berry sorbet, duck and deserts were fantastic. (Hubby had soup, crab spring rolls & chicken). The vegetables (cauli, carrots & mangetout) were served with seeds, which I hadn't had before, but were very nice. My half bottle of house chillean sauvignon blanc was very chilled and perfect. We ordered an extra hot latte & cappucino, and that is what we got!
Thank you to Mary for looking after us very well.
Restaurant was very busy, which is always a good sign. We were there for almost 3 hours, but we did not feel under pressure to finish up.
I would strongly recommend the Cherry Tree to anybody who is looking for a special night out.

“Fine dining”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2012

Pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food on the 5-course menu (35 euro when we visited). Best Barbary duck I've tasted in years, cooked to perfection and neither too fatty nor dried out. Another in our party enjoyed the pork belly. Good choice of wines without breaking the bank. Staff are friendly and the setting near the water is quite romantic, though a pity the restaurant is not right on the lake nor accessible directly by boat. Overall a fine dining treat for a special occasion and a great night out.

“All in all, a good experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2012

This was our first visit to the cherry Tree in 9 years - well impressed. Very good early bird for 26 euro, available 'til 9, lovely summer setting near the river - fantastic fish, good salads - a deft hand with simple ingredients and a simple and effective wine list. Restaurant is slightly cold and empty-feeling though - tables near window better.
