“Good stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2013

Stayed here 18th May, 1 night...myself and the husband. Car park is free, although it isn't massive. Room was clean and ample. hotel is in a very good location, close to all the bars & restaurants. Had dinner in the restaurant, was pretty good!! Went down town for few earlier and then back to the bar....lol....stayed longer than we intended to. The wee bar man was just great and made us feel so comfortable and nothing was a bother at all...just wish the shots were in a smaller glass. All in all, had a really good experience here and would recommend, going to go back soon!! Overall was worth it.

My wife and I have just spent a night in Gallaghers Hotel Letterkenny. The hotel is well located in the town centre and is easily accessed. The hotel provides a free car park which is accessed by a narrow road which runs up the left hand side of the hotel. The car park is actually in the hotel basement .
We had originally booked a standard double room. However, on arrival we were offered an upgrade to an executive room which we agreed to. This costs 15 euro extra. On arrival at the room we were slightly disappointed to find the room was quite basic and to be frank the decor is 'tired' looking. The room apparently is slightly bigger than a normal double room but really only provides a sofa as far as we could tell. A member of staff does call to your room with a dressing gown and slippers but still the room is basic. Our TV remote didnt work so its manually only and with the buttons along the top edge of the wall mounted TV you need a chair to read what your pressing. There were about 5 or so normal channels with pretty poor reception. Seemed to be tuned into UK channels. The shower was good with accurate controls and loads of hot water. However only one very small shower gel is provided. Not a big deal as most people probably provide their own toiletries. The furniture is a bit old fashioned and again basic. We had a somewhat pointless wooden open shelving unit between the bed and sofa area which was very 'rickety'. The bed itself was essentially just a double which we were surprised at. Having upgraded to an executive room we had expected a king size at least. In fairness when we raised our issues a member of staff dropped the price of our room back down to the cost of a standard double,(99 euro/night). Our view from room 202 was poor ..mainly other people backyards etc..
We were given an extended check out time of 1.30 so full marks to the staff for trying to make our stay enjoyable.
On exiting the hotel you are right on one of the main shopping streets. Loads of little shops and bars within easy walking distance. If you like traditional Irish bars then I recommend McGinleys, The Cottage and the Orchard..A pint of Guinness and a bottle of bud will cost around 8 to 9 euro..depending on the bar.

We didn't eat in the hotel as we had already booked the Lemon Tree restaurant on trip advisor recommendation.(I have reviewed this on trip advisor)

Overall, if you need a good location to bars, shops and restaurants then the hotel provides a good basic accommodation with friendly staff. However, if you want a romantic pampered getaway then this isn't the place. The staff are really friendly but the hotel is a bit tired and lacking atmosphere..

Dear Killswitch 67,
Thank you for choosing Gallagher's Hotel and for your recent review on your experience as a guest, yes indeed we are in the ideal location as a town center Hotel with free car parking. Firstly I would like to say is the team here in Gallagher's are delighted with your positive feedback regarding the staff, I have taken your comments regarding the Suite on board and we have since made improvements on these suites for better guest satisfaction, it was unfortunate your remote was not working we could have resolved this issue instantly for you, we have the 4 Irish channels with the English channels being BBC1,BBC 2 ITV and channel 4 along with sky news available in all the bedrooms. I hope if you visit Lettekenny again you give us the opportunity to welcome you back again to Gallagher's Hotel.
Many thanks again & Kind regards,
Antoinette Coyle.

Generally a good value hotel in a good location with friendly staff and a very competitive rate, however as I was in Letterkenny on business finding no wifi access in the room made life a little difficult, and the remote on the TV did not work in my room.
On the positive side there was a large car park at no extra cost and the room was very clean with a great very comfortable bed with loads of pillars, and the breakfast was of good quality and well priced.

Dear MJ Tring,
Thank you so much for your positive feedback on your recent stay with us in Gallagher's, we really appreciate it as we learn and strive to improve our facilities for our guests, Gallagher's is indeed in a great location being in the town center with free car parking for our guests at the rear of the hotel.
Delighted to hear your bedroom was very comfortable and the breakfast service had a good choice , I must apologize for the poor reception on our WiFi on that occasion, we do have full free WiFi in all areas I do hope on your next visit you will find the improvement in signal.
Many Thanks & warm Regards,
Antoinette Coyle.

From the street, Gallagher's looks bright and modern, but step inside and it's 1970. The smell of cooking oil pervades the lobby. Check-in is smooth and efficient, but the trip from the "car park" to reception--up and down hallways--is long, confusing, and rather dismaying. Clearly, the hotel has not seen a lick of paint in 40 years. The carpets are old, stained, and worn; the hallways are dim (actually, probably a good thing); and the rooms just about adequate. Breakfast is advertised as being served from 6:30 to 10 am, but when I arrived at 9 on Saturday morning, nothing was set up, one person was on duty, and the coffee had not even been made.

A cab driver told us that the hotel had been taken over by the bank; that might explain why it appears to be operated by people who have no hospitality industry experience. I'd have given this place a "Poor" rating except that the staff are trying hard.

Dear Mtadams 1.
Many thanks for taking time to post a review on TripAdvisor, I am very disappointed to read your comments regarding the upkeep of the hotel, Gallagher's Hotel is one of the newest and most modern Hotels opened in Letterkenny, having only being opened since January 2006. All our corridors to the bedrooms and car park areas are painted on a very regular basis as with general wear and tear this has to be done. Breakfast times in Gallagher's are advertised from 7.30 am-10.30 am each morning our breakfast team start from 6.45 am each morning to ensure all our guests are looked after in a professional and efficient manner.
I would be delighted if you could contact me personally to discuss the above review as I would like the opportunity to welcome you back to restore your faith in Gallagher's Hotel.
