We were staying in Loughrea, but due to lack of options close by, and having seen the website - we decided to drive over to Oranmore on wet, windy evening to try the Boathouse.
Now, the restaurant was quiet, but our table was intimate and cosy rather than lonely and cold and so we enjoyed the setting.
The menu was quite exciting, and there was about 5 or 6 things I wanted to try - and the food did not disappoint.
We were given Pork Beignets as a complimentary amouse bouche, and they were mouthfuls of flavour. It really got me excited for what was to follow. The waitress brought over a basket of delicious bread, and was only too happy to give a top up for the soup my boyfriend was diving into later.
I had the potted mackerel with gooseberries and sultanas on sourdough bread. The presentation was as good as the flavour, and I would have eaten more if they had let me!!
For main course I had the surf and turf which combined all my favourite foods. Scallops, pork belly and black pudding - the flavours worked really well, everything was cooked to perfection and my boyfriend had to ask was I alright after tasting the scallops - apparently the expression on my face was weird!!!
The desserts were good. My boyfriend made the better choice of a really decadent chocolate and raspberry tart. I hoped my Peach Melba would be a modern take, but it wasnt and the meringue tasted shop bought.... though I hope it wasnt!
We also got complimentary Petit Fours - which really finished off the meal nicely.
The food was fab, the service and staff were faultless and the extra little touches made it really good value for money!
I will happily recommend to any friends or family visiting the area.
