“Absolutely lovely!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2013

I have recently returned from another stay at this very familiar hotel and had a lovely lovely time. Fitzpatrick's is a older 'Grand Hotel' style hotel, oppulent and warm with open fires, a grand piano and chandeliers. My room was absolutely lovely, warm and very comfortable with everything I could have needed. Bottled water was provided free of charge (another hotel I stayed at recently charged a very steep 4 Euro per bottle) and smellies were pleantiful in the bathroom. Room service was also very good and the food arrived quickly and was piping hot!

Our family event was very well organised with only 3 day's notice - the staff seemed to know exactly what to do so everything ran smoothly, and the food was lovely and reasonably priced.

The Dungeon restaurant served very good food and the prices were surprisingly reasonable. Fitzpatrick's is reasonably isolated as a location - there aren't many alternative restaurants that one might walk to in the evening and it is refreshing that the hotel doesn't try to 'sting' a captive audience.

The staff deserve a mention for their helpfullness and every effort was made to accommodate our wishes. A special mention must go to Liam, the restaurant manager, who was professional, personable, warm and a lovely lovely chap who would be an asset to any organisation.

Overall it was a thoroughly enjoyable stay and I will be returning within the month!

Room Tip: Try to get a room with a balcony - the views over Dublin bay are absolutely stunning.

We were booked at this castle hotel by our travel agency. First, be aware that the hotel is in the "suburbs" of Dublin. You can catch a commuter train about 15 minute walk from the hotel, but the train will take you about 30 minutes to get into downtown Dublin. The hotel is located in a very nice residential neighborhood, and there is a great pub and restaurant not too far from the train station. If you do stay at this hotel, I recommend the Guinea Pig Restaurant in Dalkey. Avoid The Grill Restaurant in the hotel itself. Breakfasts at the hotel are full Irish breakfasts. The staff was cordial, but I was a little disappointed in the room. The rooms have been refurbished, at least cosmetically, and are clean and comfortable. Our room had a great view of a wall and the windows into other people's rooms.

I did find the convoluted "complimentary" WiFi extremely annoying. Every day you need to get a new pass code from the desk. Its not just a matter of logging on and entering a code. You have to actually create an account with a 3rd party company which includes creating a user name, password and entering all sorts of personal data like home addresses and phone numbers! What's more, you can only have one devise hooked up. I had both a computer and mobile phone I needed to access the Internet with, but I could only use one or the other with the way the system is set up.

I don't have any major complaints about the hotel, but I'm not certain its worth it to stay here, when one really wants to enjoy Dublin. I don't think there's enough uniqueness to the castle to make it worth staying so far outside of Dublin.

We stayed in the Holiday Homes section of the castle, just to the right of the main hotel. The managers were very helpful, as were the hotel staff. They helped with reservation for tours to New Grange, the Revolution Tour, the Hop on Off Bus and the Musical Pub Crawl. Obtaining a new wifi code each day seemed unnecessary, but once signed in it worked well. Each day we walked into Dalkey and caught the DART train to Dublin. About a 40 minute commute overall. The walk really helped us get into shape for Dubliin, which is a walking city! The condo was well equipped and furnished and we truly enjoyed our week there. Dalkey was an additional bonus, with plenty of good pubs, friendly people and a supermarket for supplies.

We were back in Dublin for the week-end visiting friends and we stayed in Fiztpatrick Castle Hotel for just one night. We wished it could have been longer! From the moment we arrived we knew that we had picked a great location and an equally great hotel. The reception staff were both welcoming and efficient and it was an added bonus to discover that we had been upgraded to a suite on the first floor. We can only say that we were tempted to call our friends and ask them to cancel dinner out in Dalkey and come to our room.......it was grand old world charm as you would expect. We had a great night out in Dalkey, Finnegan's pub is to be recommended as is Ragazzi Italian restaurant......small, intimate and the best Italian food that we have experienced in Ireland. We got a taxi back to he hotel as though the walk down was enjoyable and took only about 15 minutes, we didn't quite fancy the steep uphill climb back up at that late hour. Breakfast the next morning was delivered to our room at the requested time and was delicious by room service standards.
After checking out the next morning we went down to Dalkey village to stroll around and enjoy the eclectic mix of small shops and amazing deli's that are on offer. We also drove along the coastline with it's stunning views and walked along Killiney beach......this is an amazing location and one that we will definitely want to come back to......and there is nowhere better than we would like to stay than Fitzpatrick Castle Hotel when we do.

Room Tip: Rooms with a sea view are stunning.

First, this hotel lost our reservation. We booked a package deal that included like 4 hotels, and this was the only problem we had the whole trip. Additionally, the food is sub par. Definitely explore surrounding city and Dublin for food. An iron was in our room, but didn't work. I called the front desk to get a new one. An hour later still no iron. My husband had to go get the iron from the front desk. The wall paper is peeling, and the decor is truly dated. I would never stay here again or recommend this place. Its a shame because the rest of our package was wonderful!

This was the low point of the castles we stayed in. Too big, too noisy, too many screaming kids...... Our first night we had been upgraded to an executive room ( SO NOT !!!) It was large, great bathroom, no real view. At about 3am the delivery trucks and trash truck began arriving at the hotel., directly outside our 3rd flloor room. This racket continued for about 3 1/2 hours.. UGH. They moved us to a different room which was smaller and had 3 beds in it. The lobby is beautiful but the lay out is odd. You have to wheel your luggage through the high tea area to reach the hotel elevators. The pool and health club is large, and families from the town can join. Brace yourself for the smell of toddler's pee and chlorine as you enter the pool area. Did not go in the pool.... The amount of kids ( whom I love ) were so noisy you couldnt hear yourself or anyone else. The high tea was ok, but the service was slow. Best part of this place was the bar downstairs and the casual dining in the grill..... Will not return to this place.... ever.

Dear Ann B,

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay on Tripadvisor.

I was very sorry to read you did not enjoy your stay with us for the reasons you outlined. We are a busy hotel and cater to different markets which includes families but I am sorry we did not meet your expectations.
The noise at 3.00am in the morning is unacceptable and I was not made aware of any deliveries or collections at this hour and therefore I will have to investigate this and address it so that it does not occur again.

If you wish to contact me or Sandra Jackson on 00353 1 2305455 we will be pleased to discuss with you a way of restoring your confidence in us.
We hope to hear from you.

Yours sincerely,

Nicky

What a lovely weekend we had here. Dinner in the Grill on Friday evening was so relaxing and very good value. We were entertained later in the Dungeon bar with a live set from an X-factor contestant!! The breakfasts in PJs over the weekend were fab and the staff were all very nice. We will definitely be back to this Hotel!!
