We came to this hotel in Bray for a weekend and were allocated a room on the fourth floor. The room was fairly small and the shower was one of those over-the-bath jobs. The water refused to heat beyond tepid so showering was out of the question. We complained about the temperature of the water and were told that the water has to come a long way up to the fourth floor!

The pillows were rock hard. I had to ask for less firm pillows.

Breakfast is self service. You have to queue to get your cereal, cooked breakfast etc but they serve tea/coffee and toast to the table.

The table d'hote dinner was fine. The service was very good.
I did object to the staff setting tables for lunch while breakfasts were still being eaten or tables being set for breakfast during dinner.

The cost of the weekend was relatively inexpensive. Overall, it was reasonably good value for the money but they really must do something about the tepid water in the bathroom. That really is not acceptable.

  • Liked — The food was reasonably good
  • Disliked — The hard, hard pillows, the poor view from bedroom window, the lack of hot water for shower
  • Tips/Secrets: — Insist on allocation of first or second floor room. Do not accept 4th floor.

I recently stayed at this Hotel for a night. I got a fantastic rate on Lastminute, com.

When i checked in, the Hotel had 'No' record of my booking, i had made my booking only 8 hours earlier online, but the receptionist quickly rectified this.

The room was adequate considering the price i paid, £42.50, which included Irish Breakfast.

Overall i had a good experience and would recommend this Hotel for the price i paid.

I am still shocked and quite embrassed by the way in which the manager of the royal bray hotel lesure centre spoke to me and my young daughter when we tried to use the facilitys. Then when i returned the next day i noticed a staff membour in the gym advise someone to perform a very Dangerous stance on a lateral pull machine. as a trained athlete I found their inexperience and un-professionalisium completly inadequate and the Cleanliness at the same level. once leaving the Jakusi I found the water to turn into a musty brown and the changing room floor also had an infected Remnants. i would advise any lochal helth representative in Bray co, Wcklow to pay them a visit. and also advise to Manager to conduct her duties in a more friendly and professional way

My husband and I have just returned from a weekend spent at the Royal Hotel in Bray. On first impressions we were very happy both with the hotel itself and also with our 'executive' room which was clean and nicely decorated. We only had breakfast at the hotel and while the restaurant itself looked impressive, the breakfast did not - I was very disappointed to see what looked like the 'leftovers' of a cooked breakfast when we arrived down on the Saturday morning, despite the fact it was early and we found that not only were the fruit juice glasses not very clean but the apple juice was very unappetizingly served at room tempeature instead of being chilled. The one redeeming factor was the very friendly and attentive waiter who served us. Unfortunately the same cannot be said of what appeared to be the head barman or bar manager who attended to us in Quinn's Bar - he was brusque and rude in his manner and while we sat at the bar having our drink we saw at least that he treated everyone with the same discourtesy - particularly the bar staff who appeared to be intimidated by him.
The most upsetting thing however regarding our stay was that the fire alarm went off in the early hours of Sunday morning and we awakened from sleep to find people rushing to get out of the building. As you can imagine, this was very frightening and when we made our way to the ground floor we saw that a lot of people were around the lobby area - I went to reception in search of clarification as to what had happened, only to be met by a very complacent, non-reassuring male who appeared to be in charge (albeit not taking charge) who informed me in a patronising manner that the rooms where the alarm had initiated had been checked and there was no fire. I asked him what had caused the alarm to go off but he didn't appear to either know or care. I felt totally unhappy by his behaviour and was not confident to return to my room. The following morning, the fire alarm again went off at 11.00am - I again went to reception where a female receptionist told me that the alarm had been set off previously by a guest "smoking in a non-smoking area" and they were having a problem with getting the alarm off. She also didn't appear too concerned as to the effect this had had on myself or other guests who were at reception complaining at the same time. All in all, this ruined our weekend away, not so much that it actually happened but more importantly the worryingly matter-of-fact attitute of the staff in their dealing of what could potentially have been a fatal situation.!

  • Liked — Looked impressive on first siting
  • Disliked — Not reassured/confident by any of the staff who seemed to be in charge

We organised a work seminar for 12 people at the end of August. Having travelled all the way from France, we were very pleased with the warm welcome we received on arrival at the hotel. We were extremely well looked after during our stay (and we can be very demanding!) ; the meals were great and the choice at breakfast was one of the best we've even experienced. The hotel is clean as are the rooms and we found all of the staff highly efficient and very pleasant, not only with regard to our stay in the hotel but also with help in organising outside activities for our sales force.
Overall we were thoroughly satisfied with our time spent at the Royal Hotel and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the hotel for a work conference or a family stay. Thanks again to all the staff !
