“Beautiful Old Fashioned Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2013

When I say old fashioned I mean not every room is exactly the same, the lobby is not like a waiting room. It is a lovely place to stay, big leather couches in the reception, dining room lovely and bright with beautiful views. The food was really good and the staff were very friendly and helpful. When we entered the bedroom I wondered why the bed was where it was as another position would have given more room, but lay on the bed and could see why, the views were breathtaking, we purposely left the curtain open at night just to wake up to the beautifule view. The leisure centre was lovely and again the staff were great. Would recommend a stay especially if looking to relax and eat well.

Stayed in this hotel on 16th and 17th July. Sun was shining and the view was magnificent. Checked in with voucher entitling us to two nights and one evening meal. The receptionist was really pleasant but on checking the coupon she gave us we discovered the evening meal was now reduced to one course only plus glass of wine. We were allocated room 1 which on first appearances seemed small but quaint but on closer inspection was not clean, windows and surrounds were filthy, bathroom fan not working, bath and sink stoppers thrown carelessly by the sink and one towel each! We had our evening meal in the bar area supervised by a very strange man who viewed us suspiciously. My husband went to the bar and ordered our meal. And then we waited. The food when it arrived 20 mins later seemed fine, except one was piping hot and one was cold, cold plate, cold food. As we werent happy about the bedroom I went to talk to whoever was on reception. As there was no one there I left and went back three times until the same man eventually approached me. I voiced my unhappiness about the room and his answer was "sure everyone loves that room" I insisted I wasnt happy and he left to find the receptionist who very gracoiusly moved us to room 9. This was a larger room with double and single bed but still very drab with the dreaded 14" portable tv. But we were much happier. Next morning at breakfast we were greeted by a lovely blonde lady in the breakfast room. Usual selection of cereals and toast, fresh fruit salad and the lady in charge was serving various breakfasts of scrambled eggs, beans on toast and the full irish. Pots of tea and coffee was also served as requested. The full irish consisted of 2 rashers, 2 sausages, egg and mushrooms black and white pudding and tomato garnish. Place went right up in my estimation. Had a great day touring and returned to the hotel to sleep. Went down to breakfast the next morning..GONE was the waitressof yesterday. GONE was the fruit salad. GONE was the pot of coffee. And GONE was the full irish, which now consisted of one very small rasher. 2 sausages and i egg. Looking very small on a large plate We did ask for some pudding and the waitress said she would ask the chef. It did eventually arrive 15 mins later, well after we had finished eating. Feeling annoyed we decided not to delay but to check out immediately. Different receptionist from before unfortuneately. Older woman with fairish hair and no eye contact, no did u enjoy your stay or shall we be seeing you again?. Could be a lovely hotel but the inconsistencies were too much for us. Everytime it tried to succeed it pulled the rug out from under itself. Too risky, would not recommend. p.sp if u are allocated room 7 it is a cupboard and should not be offered as a bedroom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My boyfriend booked us this hotel as a surprise getaway. After our long drive from Cavan we were greeted with a warm welcome. The receptionist kindly showed us to our spacious room. Dinner that evening was lovely so much so that we went again the second night. The leisure facilities were excellent and very relaxing.
Will be back again in the near future.

Party of 12. Reservations made and secured with credit card. meal booked for 12 guests; 10 days before arrival additional 2 people to join us for meal so group organiser ph up to arrange.no issues so far. when our group of 12 showed up after our long journey from co fermanagh we were greeted with "there is no booking for you" which changed to "yes you are all booked in but under one reservation" now im no math expert but when rooms are booked for 12 adults ,2 people per room thats 6 rooms right!!! Naturally a request was made to see the manager. a man in a suit appeared to say he was "management material" would be an insult. when he did tear himself away from the large function being set up in a nearby room whos vast number of guests im sure had no issues booking in came over to us his flippant denial that WE had made the mistake only made the issue worse. when the situation was explained to him that there was a booking error on the part of the hotel the "what do you want me to do" attitude surfaced. He further went on to say "Oh yes we have been trying to ph you for 3 weeks about your reservation"bearing in mind 10 days previous contact had been made with the hotel to increase numbers for the meal. no mention of questions about our booking.Ive never booked a hotel with a credit card and had them ring for a chat 3 weeks prior...so called manager couldnt give reason why they were trying so so hard to ph us . esp seeing as event organiser had NO voice mails or missed calls from hotel. requests for a meer cup of tea much like the ability to sort out the situation of 'management' didnt materialise.

Stayed at the hotel on Saturday night. Room shown on the web site was nothing like the one we got. The bedroom and bathroom windows were filthy. One of the cups left to be used was badly stained and to top that off the cushion on the bed had a stain on it ,where mould had started to grow. There was an unpleasant smell when you came in the front door of the hotel. The building could do with a big makeover. We used the leisure centre which was good, but the first thing the staff member told us, was there were no towels as they had run out*at 5 O clock in the evening? We had a few drinks in the bar in the night and the tables were cleared promptly and sprayed after use. Breakfast was nice but the table was not fully set. The staff were friendly. Very disappointed.

So we were a group of 12 people booked weeks ago, confirmed again last week and left our credit card details, even booked a meal in the restaurant for 14 people on Saturday night. When we arrived the receptionist at first denied we had a booking then found that our booking had been wrongly input with all 12 of us allocated to one twin room. Initially the receptionist did mention that they had chalets which could be used if all else failed but after various discussions with her 'Manager' this offer was not made available to us for whatever reason.
I was aware of a funny wee guy in a suit fiddling with cushions in the lobby as we got more frustrated, then the receptionist came up with the excuse that confirmation calls to one of our mobiles had not been responded to, this was quickly disproved as a downright lie and I insisted on speaking to the Manager who took some time to appear ...you will never guess who this was !
The suited Manager had a very robust way of dealing with our complaint initially, after some time he came up with the idea that we should split up and go to a number of bed and breakfasts locally but after about an hour and a half of messing about he did finally arrange a booking their competitor hotel called the Cahir House Hotel in the centre of Cahir which was excellent.
We can all make mistakes but these people were downright rude and disinterested in our plight initially only coming around when it became obvious that we knew exactly where the problems lay and were not going to leave without some assistance from them ...towards the end of the heated conversations our suited diplomat did offer us a free meal if we returned later to fulfil our booking in the restaurant but well, we decided that he could keep the free food ......if the owner of the establishment reads this I would suggest that he/she has a staff clear out so that experienced hotel staff can be hired to run the place ..in the meantime I would suggest that any potential customers give the place a wide bearth
