“Lovely staff, great breakfast, but far from luxury!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 1, 2013

Stayed here recently and was expecting something very special because of reviews. In truth, it is very average. A lot of pine going on, very basic, old-fashioned. Nowhere to put a single thing down in the bathroom so toilet bag has to be left, full, on the floor. Small double bed, timber end board (which I hate) on bed and wire hangers. However, the location is great, the staff lovely, and the breakfast excellent. A bit of modernisation in the bedrooms and it would be really excellent. Great value though. Just not the luxurious experience TripAdvisor made it out to be.

We stayed for five nights at Befanis. Room was spacious and very clean. Tea, hot water maker and some milk was in the room. Breakfast is in the restaurant and one of the best I had in Ireland. They have a real choice - from traditional Irish to a fruit platter.
Their restaurant is excellent as well.

Had a pleasant stay in Befani's. The decor in the restaurant is quite simple but lots of local artist's work is on display and for sale, which is quite nice.

For dinner we shared the tempura platter of fish and vegetables and the calimari and shrimp were very good with a light and crispy batter, but there weren't any vegetables, other than a little garnish of salad on the plate. A steak which was cooked to order and a chicken breast stuffed with ricotta and spinach were the main courses. I asked for pasta with the chicken and was asked if I wanted pasta as well as potatoes and vegetables and when I said instead of, I was asked to choose which pasta dish I wanted from the menu (and presumably pay full price when I wanted only a side order size portion). It was simpler to stick with the potatoes and vegetables. Food was nicely presented and tasty and service attentive. Also had a nice Italian red wine, reasonable value at €25.

The rooms are clean, bright and beds comfortable but I think Befani's is missing a trick here. For the sake of a nice armchair, full-length drapes, a few cushions and a flat screen TV not mounted seven feet off the ground, this could be a lovely little boutique hotel. We paid €70 for bed and breakfast for two which is good value, but would happily have paid €100 if the little touches like a bar of soap rather than a wall-mounted dispenser were made available and we'd felt like we were having a special night away. Maybe the owners could do up one room at a time and see how it goes?

The location is very central in Clonmel town and an easy walk to anywhere. Parking is on the corner by the Quays (within sight of the townhouse) and is charged at €1 per hour between 8.30 and 5.30 Monday to Saturday (free overnight). There are some bin lorries in the early morning that might wake a light sleeper, but not a busy street otherwise.

All in all, a pleasant place to stay with friendly staff and decent food.

Stayed here in April and had a great time. Rooms are clean and spacious and breakfast options are great. Had dinner on one evening and was delicious. Only one issue in that there is no parking available and you jave to use town car parks which all have a fee.

We love Befani's. We often have tapas here in the evenings but find it a rush for lunch if we're trying to escape lunch for the hour. The menu doesn't change much which is a disappointment as the food is so yummy but variety is the spice of life.
You can't fault their tiramisu..heaven in a cup!
I would definitely recommend Befani's. Central location, easy parking on the quay and a short stroll. For a night out it's a great place to start and not far from a late night bar of any sort.

We were on holiday in Clonmel and came across this restaurant. We enjoyed it so much the first night we booked to go back before the end of our holiday. The food was fantastic and the service was exceptional. We had our 13month little boy with us on both occasions and on both the staff couldn't do enough for us.
Thankyou

B&Bs are hard to find in Clonmel, so when you find this one, you'll be pleasantly surprised. There's an Italian Restaurant at the entrance which serves a delightful breakfast (include in the price), and fine food is on offer for lunch and evening meals. The rooms are spotlessly clean and moderately spacious. Recommended! Steve (NZ).
