“Very Disappointed..”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2013

After visiting the market bar numerous times ( about 5) both myself and my partner were very disappointed to find that the Head Chef was on duty after we recieved the only food we have ever had to complain about, it was our first time trying the set menu and food was both not as described on menu and cold... It annoyed us more than normal because of how quiet it was that night also the Head Chef was standing at the counter all night in plain view of us and would of seen every dish that passed over the counter....

Have to say the regular barman/waiter is extreamly pleasant to deal with and very friendly. Hope they can sort out these problems soon as would love to have the experiance again of our first few times here..

“Bad service and bad food”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

Dont know who writes these reviews but my experience in this so called bar was really poor. Firstly it took exactly 1 hour 10 minutes for our order to arrive. We were expecting something really special after such a wait but boy were we dissapointed. The chefs platter for 2 would not be enough for a mouse, tasted disgusting and we couldnt eat it,mushrooms, tomato sauce and 4 wedges. This i have to say cost12 euro,a complete rip off.My friend ordered spagetti meatballs. which were black and dry, sent them back but was still asked to pay.I have been to real tapas bars around the world but this was a whole new experience for me. In my opinion stay well clear.

“Excellent food!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2013

What a great little place and full of atmosphere. There was even a live band though that limited our conversation whilst eating the most amazing food.

The kitchen closes very early so make sure you have time for dessert or you will not get any!!!!

The down side is the very poor wine list which does not in any way compliment the food. We decided to drink prosecco instead as it was the best on offer but they ran out of it!!!!

Tony and Peter will do very well when they become more established. Good Luck!

“Fantastic dining experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

Myself and my brother were looking for a nice spot to eat and have a few drinks in Dundalk. As the Market Bar had recently opened, we decided to try there. The atmosphere was nice and the staff were very pleasant. But the food really was the highlight of our visit.

The chef sent sent us out two amuse bouches, which were delicious and a very nice touch.
Fois grais and duck breast with spiced pear chutney, peanut butter foam with crispy schallots
Scallop with crostini and coral butter.
Then for starters
Prawn Pil-Pil with avocado salsa
Crispy chicken wings with blue cheese mousse
Then for our main course
Crispy chicken breast with creamed sweetcorn, spinach and parma ham
Cured salmon with buttermilk grantie, avocado mousse, pickled radish and soy dressing
And finally for desert
Chocolate parfait with peanut butter mousse and christmas pudding crumble

I need not elaborate much on the quality of the food, only advise you check it out for yourself. The team in the kitchen clearly have a flare for fine dining and I will certainly be back again.
