“fairways hotel stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2013

once again I was back at the Fairways Hotel in Dundalk, this hotel is not a cookie cutter franchise, It is in fact a family run operation and that is reflected in the service they offer. There is no such thing as take it or leave it here, the staff bends backwards to accommodate you they are friendly and extremely helpful, talk about Irish Hospitality this is the place.

If your looking for a stop over for the night, but you don't want to hold up a bank to pay for it, Then look at the fairways hotel for B&B. You won't be getting a 4 star or 3 star hotel with fine dinning, but you will get a good room and a good breakfast. Watch out for the weddings at the weekends where the music can run on to 4am in the morning !!! It's all every run of the mill and very average, but then again your bill won't be through the roof when you go to pay for it !!!

We booked this hotel on one of the value breaks & thought we were getting a great deal, it was reasonably priced for two adults, two nights b&b with one evening meal but to say we are disappointed is an understatement. We arrived Friday afternoon, receptionist was friendly, helpful & check in was fine. We were given our keys & headed to our room which was two floors up & no lift! I have a bad back which was a lot worse having two flights of stairs to contend & carrying our luggage. The room was basic but spotless with tea/coffee making facilities provided. We dined in the restaurant on the first night but both our meals were disappointing but the service was excellent, & the staff were lovely & friendly. There was entertainment in the bar afterwards but we decided to have an early night or so we had hoped. We could hear the music in our room & it continued until 1am. Next morning breakfast was fine, again nice friendly staff & a good selection of food. We spent the day out & about, returned exhausted looking forward to a good nights sleep. I am writing this at 4.40am not one wink of sleep have we had. There is a nightclub in this hotel but to my knowledge most nightclubs finish around 2am but not here! The music is blaring & to make matters worse our room overlooks a courtyard which is also an outdoor smoking area so on top of listening to the music we also have to endure the drunken party goers singing at the top of their voices. We have twice phoned reception asking what time the music will end & both times were told in a few minutes but that was more than an hour ago & still its in full swing! So if thinking of a relaxing weekend avoid here. The location is not within walking distance of the town but it is a lovely town to visit & with a great selection of shops. All in all this hotel has lovely friendly staff, our room was spotless although the part of the building we are in could do with a few renovations & some updating. Such a pity as we needed a break & it is a rare occasion we get the chance to get away & we were both looking forward to a rest but having had no sleep we will be leaving later today tired & bitterly disappointed. This hotel is suitable for those looking for a lively weekend & most definitely not a quiet break.

Staying in Dundalk on business and having tried a couple of other hotels I was drawn to the Fairways by other TA reviews. I have to say I was disappointed. This hotel needs to close down for at least 6 months and do a major renovation job. The public areas are full of signs warning about the steps and stairs (lots around the bar area so I could imagine serious accidents on busy nights!) - so take them out! The public areas are very musty and uninspiring. Bedroom was OK and spacious but toiletries very basic. Breakfast was OK - fried breakfast delivered to table, buffet selections very limited. The bar was a bit gloomy for a Thursday night but could imagine it gets lively with live music at weekends. Clearly a favourite for the party set - I had a wake-up call at 5.00 am by returning revellers.

Hotel could do with more renovation. Cleanliness let it down, cobwebs on the lamps in reception. Dinner food not great, breakfast was nice. Nightclub for 18-25yr olds but free to residents and great music. Staff couldn't have been nicer. Rooms big. Hallway smelt musty. Good place for groups of young people. Ok for price we paid.

Stayed here again last weekend, me & my friends go to the fairways every 6-8 weeks for a night away. The staff are all lovely and very helpful, we always get a great welcome on arrival. Rooms are spotless and spacious with double and single bed. Great entertainment in the bar at night and they now have a nightclub in the hotel. Billy and all the staff are so welcoming. If you are looking for somewhere to go with a group of friends for a great night then this is the hotel for you. Cant wait to go back :-)
