“Simply wonderful in every way”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2014

Four of us dined on Saturday night before the rush. We'd booked early enough and staff rang to reconfirm booking and the time. Our starters included a goats cheese and the ever wonderful moreish seafood chowders. All served with their own fabulous home - made breads. (If I ever ended up on Desert Island Discs - no chance really as I'm a talentless nobody - my luxury would be a three course dinner with coffee, of course, from this place every night.) Anyway four T-bone steaks and all trimmings with particularly excellent garlic potatoes. Great portions too. The service was as always: excellent. The place as always: packed. The food as always: wonderful. Now there was also copious consumption of wine and quite a few gins, normally I don't drink that much any more, sorta just got bored with alcohol these past few years, but the company was engaging. We've eaten here a lot over the years but not as much in latter 2013 as we've been travelling a bit. It is always a pleasure to eat here. I enjoy the anticipation of going here too. As I've said in my previous reviews of Fitzpatrick's it is great value for money. I keep reading comments that it's a little pricy. It's not. I say it again it's great value for money. There is one matter I rarely comment on when I review this place but I do so now; it is the hard working couple who own it. They engage with their community and the wider community, they have done for years. They raise money for charities too. They bring joy, like for example their wonderful and fun efforts at Christmas and Halloween. They don't have to do any of this, there's plenty of business people who couldn't care less about their communities. I only make my observations as I've read a review or two on this place over Christmas that were a tad less than complimentary and while there may be some minor merit in their criticism it has to pale to insignificance against the deserved hundreds of excellent and good reviews. I anticipate there will be many more excellent reviews to come too; I intend to be among them. One thing annoys me; these people who write reviews claiming to know the owner and his family blah blah for years only to be critical. What I wish to say to them would prevent this being published. To conclude I also read the owner's reply to the very few dissatisfied folk. He too is a tad hasty. I encourage him to now draw breath from his knee jerk reply. I don't blame him at all for his reaction, after all when you make tens upon tens of thousands of excellent meals year after year, work hard and do your bit for community and charity to then read the words of the disaffected few it can irritate one to irrationality, but he mustn't let these very few, the very very few, who were a bit peeved at Christmas to define what he does or doesn't do in 2014 or beyond. I for one want the Halloween stuff and Christmas stables year on year and the charity which like the food, the homely hospitality and the Craic it's what makes Fitzpatricks, Fitzpatricks, it's what makes them unique. I want them to stay unique I want the protests to keep this peninsula protected, I want to see a letter from the current Irish president after he drops by for a great meal, so Danny, Dympna and family just keep up the great work and please remember you will still get the odd unhappy punter that's just life as we know it.

“Fantastic Restaurant.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2014

Had been meaning to visit this place for quite some time and finally got around to it this weekend. Well what can I say! We were staying over night in Carlingford, and Fitzpatrick's courtesy bus collected us from our hotel. When we arrived there the restaurant was packed and there was a lovely warm atmosphere about the place. The decor itself is old worlde with such an array of antiques, you would never get bored looking around. Then came the food...I have never tasted lamb so delicious anywhere. My husband had the steak pie which was stuffed with pieces of melt in the mouth meat. After finishing the main course we just had no room left for desert, which was a pity as they looked like they were to die for! When we were ready to leave their courtesy bus was ready to return us to our hotel. Great service all round. Will be back soon!

“WE DRIVE 37 MILES FOR THIS FOOD!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2014

my family make all sorts of excuses for a trip to Fitzpatricks, the food is the best we have tasted anywhere and is definately worth the spin for us, pity they had no beds for us after because we are never fit to leave!

Greeted with beautiful gardens, inside the door they have live lobsters waiting on Tuesday for Lobster night. Then the delicious cakes you pass on your way to the table. I havent even started about the food.

They have a set menu Monday to Thursday, 4 courses for about 25 euro ahead which is extremely good value. Something on it for everyone. We always get the chicken wings, the best chicken wings in Ireland! a HUGE newspaper type cone of them with enough to share for 3, with dips/carrots/celery. I recommend the mussels to start, but BEWARE, this is a humongous pot FULL with wheaten bread, you cannot possibly eat it all on your own.The meat is all fantastic, steaks, burgers, chicken dishes. And I've never been disappointed with the desserts of home-made pavlova, cheesecake, i think you get the jist.

The kids love coming here, its such a special place, so much to see at it, the memorabilia is fascinating. The toilets have antique bad pans criss-crossing the ceiling, perfume bottles, biscuit tins, make-up puffs, newspaper articles. They even have a washing line with aran jumpers down the back. The staff are always friendly and helpful, bringing crayons for the children and recommending the drinks. They even have a box of blankets for the poor cold smokers outside.

The atmosphere is electric here, always a buzz around it, especially at Halloween with their displays, rumours are that they are stopping this, I hope this is something they will consider doing forever as it is the highlight of our year!

When you sit at a table and they immediately set down a jug of fresh water and a wooden bowl full of home-made wheaten bread you know that its going to be good.

PS.... they have a cocktail menu with real cocktails, and almost always give you a free second bottle of wine!
