We came to Ireland to visite our daughter working in Waterville at this time. On her advice we booked a 3 night stay at the Waterville Old Cable House and experienced a great warm and friendly welcome there. During our stay everybody, staff and especially the owners were very helpful, making our stay comfortable. We also had the chance to get in contact with irish traditions and culture e.g. the traditional food "irish stew" served at the b&b restaurant, we just can recommend! Another compliment goes to the breakfast which showed a variation we hadn´t expected. Try the irish breakfast! The rooms were clean and the beds pretty comfortable. Due to our short stay we couldn´t see all attractions of the great ring of kerry region but our hosts gave us good tips where to go and what to do best. So we took part on a trip to the skellig islands, we just can recommend (possible to book directly at the B&B!). Furthermore we made some trips along the ring of kerry.
We really enjoyed our stay and we will definitly come back to Ireland and to the Old Cable House with its hospitality!

“A Welcome Return”

The Old Cable Historic House

Feb 26, 2008

The Old Cable House has established itself in our hearts as the ultimate base for our Irish holidays. On both previous visits, the welcome has been outstanding, a meal for 4 being served at 11PM when we were delayed unavoidably on our first arrival. This was tyical of the many kindnesses extended to us during our visits.

There is a strong family feel about the Old Cable House and visitors are made to feel part of the family. Margaret and Alan, the proprietors, work hard to ensure that their guests enjoy their time in Kerry. They are happy to make arrangements for any number of activities and know the area and the contacts needed to advise and recommend for example, guides and ghillies .

The warmth of the welcome is equalled by the quality of the food. The full Irish breakfast ensures the necessary energy reserves for those engaging in more strenous pastimes, while the evening meals are excelently prepared and reflect the first class quality of local produce.

We are impressed by the standard of the accommodation, the comfort of which is always conducive to a restful stay.

It takes a lot to Impress us, but the fact that we are in the process of booking our third visit speaks for itself.
Thoroughly recommended!!

This is without doubt one of the very best B&Bs I have stayed in. Very welcoming, lovely light, spotlessly clean room. Excellent dinner & breakfast of scrambled egg & locally smoked salmon - perfect! The history of the telegraphic cable is fascinating & there are many pieces of memorabilia around including a huge scale model of the ship that laid the cable & original newspapers from the period. My mother & I were very keen to watch the World Cup Semi Final between England & France. As it was unavailable in the lounge we watched it with the family - they even recorded Ireland playing football - service well beyond the call of duty! Lovely family - if you are staying in Waterville - stay here!

“Irish Charm and Hospitality”

The Old Cable Historic House

My husband and I have traveled extensively for 27 years and have found Ireland to be our favorite "Home Away from Home". This year we discovered a B -n-B, The Old Cable House, that became our true home for eight nights. It's centrally located to many of the sightseeing attractions & rooms, ensuite or not, are inviting, comforatable, well-kept and reasonably priced. Its proprietors, Margaret and Alan Brown, are well versed on the countryside and extremely helpful with any arrangements you may need to make. Also, Alan is a talented chef and dining is a culinary experience to savour. We highly recommend The Old Cable House, as it is the epitome' of Irish hospitality and charm we've come to love.

We were most disappointed by the Old Cable House. The building looked lovely in the web photograph and it sounded a charming place and it was with high hopes that we arrived.

However, the entrance was cramped and rather gloomy. The reception from the owner was unenthusiastic (in sharp contrast to every other place we stayed in Ireland).

The room was o.k. but the shower room ceiling was covered with mould and the shower cubicle had dirty grout and peeling trim. There was no tea/coffee as advertised.

We stayed in superior accommodation for only 25 euros per person whilst this place cost 38 euros, so we felt we got poor value. for money
