“Best hospitality”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2009

Sitting at the breakfast table in a pleasant room with windows to beautiful Lake Curragh we experienced a warm, friendly atmosphere. We saw Ann McCarthy as good hearted mother of three fine boys and warm hostess who cooked a fantastic breakfast. There was rich choice ranging from Irish over fresh salmon and pancakes or fruit, the scones were excellent. The room was comfortable, clean, had a good bathroom and beds. Currane Lodge proved to be the right place to relax after hikes and get good advice about where to go and what to do. We enjoyed our stay immensely and are grateful to have experienced this very special place.

The stay at "Currane Lodge" this summer was already my second and hopefully not the last to come.
Like last year, the time at Anns and Eamons place was the most beautiful, most relaxing one, one could wish for.
The wonderful self- catering-accomodation we had booked this year was just as good, as the B&B experience last year had made us exspect.
All rooms are tastefully decorated and very comfortable. The kitchen is just as well equipped as you would exspect it, if your hostess is a chef, like Ann.
The bedrooms are quiet and comfy, too, as was the sitting- room with the fireplace and the bathroom with both shower and jacuzzi. Washer-Dryer and an additional toilet are also in the package. What more should you wish for, except the view you get, when you look out of the window.
Most of all I enjoyed the peace and quiet of the most beautiful surroundings I have found in Ireland, so far.

The McCarthys are great hosts, who were never tired to make our stay as perfect as possible. They were a great help with tipps about the best places to visit in the area, bookings for restaurants or the trip to the Skelligs and not to forget Anns breakfast, she was nice enough to let us add to our booking on some days...really: You won't find such scones or pancaces (freshly made!) anywhere else!

Even if Lough Currane wasn't one of my very favourite places on earth:
to me the Currane Lodge is far more than the common B&B. I hope to be visiting there for many more times.

From the very warm welcome we received, the perfectly charming rooms, and the breathtaking - quiet - location right next to the Lough Currane, I did not think it could get any better than this. We stayed for a week and I was proven wrong. The McCarthy's are ever so helpful with ideas for trips and restaurants, provided the best booking aid in the area and helped us out with everything we needed and didn't bring with us. The view of the lake tempted us at any time, day or night, to just relax on the veranda and watch the sun, the clouds, the moon... And then there was the breakfast, which I will call the most delicious I have ever tasted. And I have travelled the world extensively. It shows that Ann McCarthy has years of experience as a chef. And her more than generous breakfast offerings include such delights as heavenly fresh-baked scones, fresh sautéed salmon, and the best home-made pancakes to go with crispy bacon, lemon and sugar, or sirup. Imagine it while sitting in a room overlooking the lake and you might get an idea. I definitely hated to leave and know I will return as soon as possible.

You can do a part of Kerry Way.

The accommodation:
Easy to book trough B&B network
The selection of homemade breakfast is something special.
The rooms are clean.

I have stayed with Ann and Eamonn on a number of occasions when fishing Lough Currane near Waterville. After sampling a number of other options in the area I can assure this is the place to stay. It's position overlooking the lake means you can actually check the conditions from your bed in some of the rooms. Invaluable for any fisherman contemplating an early start.
For the non-fishing visitor the highlights are, the view, the comfort of the rooms (check out the shower!) but particularly the breakfasts. Normally B&Bs are very restricted in the variety offer for breakfast. Not so here. Ann is a proffessionally trained chef and the variety and standard of the food exceeds any I have come across in years of fishing my way around Ireland.
While there, take the opportunity to quiz Eamonn on all the local heritage sites. His knowledge is a result of working at some of the most important sites in Ireland.

Stayed three nights in July while fishing on the famous Lough Currane.
Room was large, clean, and very comfortable. Bathroom was good with a very powerful shower.
The breakfast was excellent and the Full Irish Breakfast will keep you fed all day! The view from the dining room is breathtaking.
Anne and her family are very good hosts and I would definitely recommend Currane Lodge.

We had a family reunion at the lodge. It was a great week.
Ann was a very good host and gave us good local information. The trip out to the Skelligs was very good, nothing like it anywhere else.
