“I cant understand all the bad reviews for this hotel.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2013

I stayed here recently with my Boyfriend. We had a really really nice room, the bed was comfortable and room was spotless and really large. The bathroom was clean and the shower was powerful and roasting. What more could ye ask for really. we didn't eat or drink anything as we had booked a restaurant in town. The hotel is very reasonably priced and we felt it was really good value.

The drive into the hotel is lovely. We were welcomed by a friendly gentleman and shown to our room. It was bright and very clean. We asked for information about the town and they were very happy to help us with our many questions. Dinner was lovely and we both had a great night sleep in comfortable. I would return again for sure.

Room Tip: Best way to see Athlone is on foot especially down by the River Shannon

Spacious hotel. We stayed in a family suite which had a mini kitchen ie microwave and fridge but when we went to prepare breakfast in the morning (it was a room only deal) we had no pots or cutlery and when we asked for some we were informed it was only semi self catering!! What use is a fridge and microwave if you have nothing to eat your food off or with.
The staff were friendly and helpful and the hotel was clean and airy.
We ate in the bar which was basic enough and a little expensive for the food we received, ie 12" pizza 12E and a bowl with 3 scoops of ice cream 4.95E.
Parking was good as was the location.

Only stayed one night whilst going out in town but it was clean comfortable with large bedroom and bathroom. Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice including smoked salmon and hot freshly made fry.

We were mad to stay here as the hotel website made it look magnificent and quiet modern but that was not the case. The rooms etc are lovely and new decorated but the rest of the hotel, bar area gardens etc are dated. We booked for two adults and two children when we arrived only the cot was made up not the sofa bed. Nor was there any linens provided so I had to call reception, they did come really quick and make it. We had dinner here it was very nice. The breakfast wasn't great but it was eatable. Our room was located right beside the entrance and at night it was very loud woke our child up with people in the bar. Overall it was a grand hotel for a sleep but nothing as to what I expected.

Top class service yet again from the Shamrock Lodge.
Its easy to see why this hotel is so popular with the locals - you get a friendly personal touch that the larger hotels just cannot provide. Thanks to Alan and his team for looking after my daughters Communion party at the weekend - the good food and service was commented on by everybody .

I have stayed here many times, the last being in April, 2013. Located in the western part of Athlone this hotel is in a very central position with ample parking and beautiful gardens.

This hotel has three main advantages:
excellent helpful staff.
large well designed and well decorated bedrooms.
excellent breakfast, lunch and evening meal. Lunch and evening meal are straightforward good traditional fare.
