“Close to everything in Athlone”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2013

we booked this hotel through Booking.com got a decent price for B&B. Hotel was easy to find and close to Dominos, Subway, McDonalds and a gas station. We must of picked the night that everything decided not to work at this hotel, Friday Oct. 25, 2013. The WiFi would not work in the room. Room 315. Linda at reception reset it a few times, but no luck. There was wifi in the main lobby though. Then the tv got 3 channels out of about 15, Daniel came up and spent about 15 minutes working on it and finally got us Mtv, sky news and a cartoon channel. So, we gave up on the tv and the wifi and went out exploring the town. We came back and had a few drinks in the bar, good service and the whole place was clean and tidy through out the whole hotel. Breakfast had good choices in the am, hot food, nice and hot and good selection on fruits and cereals. Plenty of parking. We would stay here again if in that area.

I stayed here last fri night the 10 Oct.and I can say it was the worst experience I have had in a long time. I understand you can expect a certain amount of noise but find 4am a bit excessive. I brought this to attention of Manager next morn a very hard individual to communicate with. He offered me free lunch which I declined as this was not the purpose of my complaining.I would much prefer he dealt with my complaint and h do his job properly and ensure the noise level at this hotel is kept in control.

Breakfast was another bad experience as the senior man who seemed to be in charge barked orders to the staff, and shouted orders back to kitchen staff. There was a young waiter who was new getting constantly bullied by this individual. The hotel over all should avail of customer training if it wants to stay competitive .Far better hotels in Athlone Would not recommend anyone stay here unless a vast change of attitude takes place. The only positive was reception staff so maybe they could suggest rooms at back of hotel if people are on business and need to sleep,

Dear Guest,
Thank you for taking the time to write a review on TripAdvisor following your stay. I was disappointed to hear you had a bad experience.
On the night in question there were 160 guests staying in the hotel, as you can imagine noise levels can be very difficult to control as many of the guests were returning from functions in the town and on leisure breaks. There were two Night Porters on duty who constantly patrolled the corridors and they did not report any complaints from guests about noise.
The Manager on duty the following morning did offer you a complimentary lunch as a goodwill gesture which you declined .
With regards to your comments in which you refer to a member of staff being bullied, I can reassure you that such conduct would never be tolerated in this hotel. I have spoken with members of Staff on duty that morning, and can assure you that all of them work well as a team.
If you wish to take time out to read previous reviews of this hotel on both TripAdvisor and Booking.com ,you will see that all our staff are highly rated and offer an excellent level of customer care to all our guests.
As a valued customer, we appreciate your comments, and hope that you will not be deterred from staying with us in the future.

Stayed for one night check in was fast on arrival staff on reception were really friendly and helpful. The room was big and very clean had everything you need including an ironing board and iron even. Tea and coffee making facilities in room even had decaf coffee which I've never seen before which was a pleasant surprise. Breakfast was lovely but didn't do croissants which was a little disappointing overall would use this hotel again

A good, solid three star hotel offering very good value. Apparently the hotel has been open for fourteen years and some of the decor shows this. Perhaps time for some improvements?
The staff were excellent - friendly and very helpfull.
The hotel brochure states it is "Less than 1mile from Athlone." This may refer to the town boundary rather than the centre which took us a good 45 minutes to walk.
In the town itself, the castle is well worth a look and Sean's bar (the oldest in Ireland) is excellent.

We booked a 2 nite stay, B&B in this hotel through a deal website. Hotel was lovely and clean. Got to hotel and were checked in straight away, no problems, receptionist was very nice and friendly. Room was nice and clean, only fault I would have is we were at the front of the building and were looking out at the 24 hour shop/petrol station, so it was fairly noisy, so if you are booking in here, ask for room at the back of the building. We had food in the bar on the first evening and it was lovely and reasonably priced, breakfast was lovely on both mornings, Its about half hour walk to Athlone town, which i did walk and was fine, footpath the whole way so its safe walk. I would stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back of the building as its very loud at the front all through the night.
