We were spending a weekend in Athlone and wanted to treat ourselves to the best restaurant we could find; we are so happy that we went to The Locke. The building, an old presbyterian church, is unique and very atmospheric. It has a great history which can be read about on the first page of the menu. The lighting and acoustics were perfect and it would be difficult to think of a more romantic place to eat. I was impressed that Anne, the owner, had responded to so many recent, very positive reviews of her restaurant; this surely shows someone who is keen to look after her customers. And we were not disappointed; it truly is a fabulous, family restaurant. Anne's daughter in law greeted us and Anne hereself served us. Later, we were introduced to her son and husband. They could not have been more welcoming.
The food was excellent as was the bottle of rose prosecco. Our starters of Seafood Chowder and Atlantic scallops could not be bettered. The Pan-fried breast of Barbary Duck and Slow Roast Irish Pork Belly were also exceptional. Make sure you arrive hungry, the portions are very generous! Just enough room for pavlova and an Ice cream with a Brandy Snap. I believe the total bill came to approx Euro 120. Excellent value.
We don't live in Athlone but hope we might be able to get back to The Locke for Christmas; a perfect venue for a cosy Christmas dinner. Thanks very much to Anne and her family!

Your feedback and comments have blown us all away, especially me. We are all so happy that we lived up to your expectations on the night. We have worked and continue to work very hard on our building to keep her feeling fresh, welcoming and inviting. I am so joyful that you found it to be so romantic. We are a family run restaurant and you got to meet the whole clan on the night.
Your feedback on the food, was so delightful and i have passed your lovely comments onto Mr. Niall Kavanagh, our chef. His dedicated team work really hard on our food so it means alot when that is recognized especially about the Pork Belly which is one of our house specialities.
I know you don’t live in Athlone but we all sincerely hope you will come and call again, not just as customers and guests but as friends.
What more can i say but again, Thank you so much!
