Derryglad Folk & Heritage Museum must be 'Best in Class' on what you can be very lucky to find, when travelling in Ireland. The Folk Museum is the life's work of The Finneran Family, Charlie and Bridie. Charlie's friendliness is very apparent at first meeting and you immediately feel at ease when Charlie folds his arms and listens with interest to your many questions as there are so many artefacts on display at the museum. The layout at the facility is excellent and is designed for wheelchair access. The quality of workmanship that is evident on the restoration of the many pieces of equipment in the Museum is staggering and when you realise the effort and sheer love of the work, that is evident, you can realise the you are in the presence of a master craftsman in the persona of Charlie.
The recreation of the McCormack Photography Room at the museum is an amazing experience and for anyone remotely interested in photography, it is a must see. The care and attention to detail of the Photography Room in recreating the famous Athlone photographic studio is again another example of Charlie's master workmanship and a credit to the whole area to preserve such wonderful gems of our heritage and our not too distant past. As a step back in time and unique experience I cannot recommend a visit to Derryglad Folk Museum too highly.
Many thanks to Charlie for kindness and his valuable time to show me the Folk Museum.
