“One of the Best Castles to visit!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2013

You see many castles when you travel but this one was expectational. They have put a lot of time and effort into providing interactive displays that suit all ages, they are informative and fun. You come away learning a lot about the history of this area - well worth the time.

“Worth a visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2013

We went to Athlone Castle on a cool November day. The reception was warm, with friendly staff who welcomed us. The castle is interesting and the history of the castle, Athlone and ireland especially in the late 17th century is well explained. Recommended to those interested in Irish history.

“King John's Castle”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2013

We visited Athlone Castle in Athlone, Ireland while visiting that city. The castle has very good exhibits and gives you a good overview of the history of the area. The castle is fun to explore and provides splendid view of the surroundings. The price was very reasonable. It was definitely worth going.

“13th Century Castle”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2013

Very reasonable admission. Friendly staff. Informative. Displays were well done. Nice views of town and river Shannon. Geared towards adults but kiddies will like it too, especially the hands-on exhibits (make sure you try your hand at using the weapons). And built in the 1200's! For an American that's "really old"!

Last time in Ireland we did all the "tourist" sites. This time we went to places less well known, like Athlone, and were rewarded with some wonderful experiences. You will like it here.

We had planned to just stop by and see the castle, but it was so well done and the museum is fantastic and so worth the extra couple of bucks
