Definitely over rated, 3 rooms booked for 5, no complaints about rooms,lovely, but very warm ,needs air conditioning. As for bar and restaurant service,worst ever seen,from the start of setting foot in the bar,loads of staff all doing the same work and would totally ignore you if you stood at the bar waiting for service,they would look at you all right, with a look to say what do you want?? Two senior members in suits,women, my god they had such sour faces on them,,i never seen or heard so many people complaining in all my trips to hotels in
Ireland. Had a snack in bar Friday pm. one of the senior women brought the food over to our table and grunted at us,plus side, food was lovely. Booked a table at 5 pm for a sitting at 7pm in main restaurant for 8 ,as others were joining us, went down at 7, No booking for us, but said they would get table for us,it was very quite,45 minutes before we could order a drink and at that we had to go look for service,plenty of staff on but they kept ignoring us,food was nice except for one dinner ,shank of lamb was so tough couldn't be eaten,was said to waitress but no come back, the only time we saw anyone was when they took order ,brought food and collected dishes,not one bit of contact in between,40 minutes after finishing we had to go look for the bill, asked for a manager,he didn't appear,1 waitress apologised and offered us a glass of wine, but the night had been ruined.Saturday evening we eat in the bar,Deirdre served us for drinks and our meal, she was fantastic and really looked after us, food was lovely, she was busy and i went to bar to order more drinks, no customers at bar ,one bar man cleaning a glass behind bar in front of me, he looked at me ,continued drying the glass,then unbelievable a man approached beside me, the bar man took his order and totally ignored me,it really was disgraceful,i went back to my table fuming, they had all seen this, i went back up and said it to barman, he said he didn't see me!!!!! there was no one else there only me.The receptionists were very busy with people going up complaining about the service in the bar and in the restaurant, i'm sure they were very fed up, because they were the only staff that done their work right. Good service is so important in hotels, but the majority of staff in the Radisson Blu in Athlone could not give a Dam.
