A fantastic located restaurant, right in the heart of the town. Great food for brilliant value. (especially the onion marmalade) Spacious relaxing area, on both levels, with a fruitful interior. Very helpful and friendly staff, always have a smile on their faces. Would recommend highly!

“Savoury Fare play to them!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2013

Excellent food and even better staff. Recently went to both the one in town and the one out in the garden centre and the food was great in both and the staff were even better especially in the Garden Centre. The friendly and well mannered staff made my lunch even more enjoyable and I would definitely recommend anyone to eat here. The freshly made cakes are a great treat after a lovely meal. 10 out of 10!!

“Just make a couple of changes”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2013

Very friendly staff. Food is average. Could do with a little less salt. Pricing is a bit high for a sambo. It would be lovely to be able to sit down and be served. Serious problem with ventilation as when sitting upstairs the smells of burned food, particularly burned toast, is stifling (and clothes smell bad afterwards). My biggest gripe is food hygiene standards (not all staff are culprits). Stop handling money with ur plastic gloves on. Make staff wear a hat especially those with long hair. Get staff to be more aware of food hygiene standards e.g. Don't scratch yourself with ur gloves on, don't lean over the sambo prep area on top of a sandwich to get into the front of the deli fridge.

“friendly welcome, good food, great value - everytime!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2012

Athlone is right in the heart of Ireland, the last outpost before 'The Wesht'. I've never understood why it isn't on far more tourist itineries because it has everything; a central location, the mighty River Shannon, the imposing castle, the atmospheric 'left bank' quarter, a sense of history - and great places to eat. Now there are of course many fancy places to eat out late, but if it's a day you're having in Athlone then 'Savoury Fare' is the place you should head for. The welcome is always friendly, even more than usual in what is one of the friendliest and nicest towns in Ireland; there's a great mix of staff, whether it's Roscommon, West Meath, Poland or Nigeria, they're all fantastic. They need to be friendly because the menu is huge and it can take a long long time to decide what to have. Whether you eventually decide on hot food or sandwiches or whatever - you'll have tasty food, well cooked, lots of it - and all at a great price. What more could you want? Make sure you go and when you leave, look forward to coming again the next time.
