“Charming people and good food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2012

I've eaten in Breathnachs a few times with my family and always found the staff to be friendly, courteous and helpful. Free wifi, which is not always readily available in the wilds of Connemara, is a bonus. The food is quite simple but properly prepared and with a good selection for adlts and kids. Live music on a Saturday night too.

“Traditional Irish Pub and Restaurant - Not to be Missed”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2012

Breathnach's Bar is more than just a bar or Irish pub. We found it to be a great Irish restaurant also. Our first night in Oughterard, was a late Sunday night and of course we were all starved.

So we tried Breathnach's and what a nice surprise it was. Not only is it an authentic Irish pub, but also the best Irish food in town. The service was great, the prices reasonable and the food was awesome.

Our host took the time to see where we were from, and invited us back for real Irish music later in the week. We took him up on the offer and were not disappointed.

We stopped back a few times during the week for a few pints and just had a great time talking with everyone at Breathnach's. A great experience we won't forget for a long time.

“Our "Local" pub”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2011

We stayed in the area for a week and returned to this bar on four different occasions. They have wifi so we were able to check up on our emails with a Guiness. Had dinner here twice and found the food to be quite good. The owner was especially kind to us going out of his way to arrange some tours for us and spending quite a bit of time doing it.

“Don't touch the water...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2011 via mobile

The pub has a classical irish style.
Staff is kind and food is of medium quality.
I tasted salmon and it was well cooked and delicious, potatoes was not well cooked.
Prices are quite high, I hope they made a mistake with the bill.. it is not possible to pay a bottle of water (1lt.) 5 euro.
They said that wifi connection was present and active but signal was very poor and unable to accept connections.

“Not going back!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2011 via mobile

The food was amongst the best, but the service could use some refining. We could hardly get a smile from the staff and the manager was so stressed that he had his staff under pressure and thus the service was poor.
