“just in time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2013

We just arrived in Howth and having had a very fairly priced drink in the bloody stream bar (compared to Dublin city prices)
we looked up tripadvisor and were immediately drawn to the reviews of number 3 The Brass Monkey
it was 530 pm so we decide to call and book, and boy were we lucky we got the last two seats at the Bar
this restaurant is small but cosy perhaps a bit too busy for a romantic evening but its gets better
Having looked at the beautiful specials on the blackboard
we then turned our attention to the menu ,oh my god its so tasty and tempting
We were just thinking about ordering when i noticed an early bird menu for 21 euro
Two course one of which can be a desert as pointed out by the attentive waitress behind the counter
well thats what we did A pate starter we shared and came with the extra plate
one mains of fish and chips and one shank of lamb both cooked to perfection
my fish was breaded and deep fried i really dont like the battered fish anymore it seems always more battered than fish
then a yummy desert so well presented
Because i saved so much on the mains etc i treated us to a beautiful Italian red wine at 34 euro
20 to 25 is normally my max
We were then reminded that we could have a free tea/coffee wow
Could things get any better yes we got the bill and two little complimentry shots of a liquer and mints
we will be back but booking earlier next time

“Great Tapas”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2013

Went on saturday night without a booking, was early so managed to get a table as long as vacated by 6.30 but that was ok. Had different tapas and seafood chowder, all were very nice, especially the ribs, which came in a gorgeous sauce. Nice wine, very good service, and lovely atmosphere. Will go again when in Howth.

“Excellent service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013 via mobile

Had lunch here today, it was very busy and took a while for our dishes to be served, but that was ok we were in no rush, the staff were so friendly and went out of there way to look after us even got the chef to cook up some mussels for our little girl (not on the menu) the food was lovely we just had some starters, I wasn't mad on the Dublin bay pawns though but just think it is a personal thing as to how they were cooked, I can see how others would like them, it was our first time here and I look forward to many more visits, well done guys I can see why you are so busy with such friendly staff :)

“Could become a favourite”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013

We had lunch at the Brass Monkey last Sunday. I've been to Howth many times, but never really noticed this place before. As tapas fans, we decided to give it a try. They were full, but accommodated us. We used one of the high tables and it was really comfortable. The food was superb, we tried four plates and all of them were excellent. However, what I liked most was their choice of music, along with the red decor it just created a very evocative space on a winter Sunday. We will be back.
