We spent 2nights at the Lough Allen and thoroughly enjoyed it. Our friends had their wedding reception here. We turned up well before the stated check in time and asked it there was somewhere we could change for the ceremony. The staff went out of their way to get us into our room early. We had a lovely room over looking the lake. The room was a good size, very clean and a comfy bed. It did get hot during the night but all radiators have thermostats so room can be as cool or cosy as you like. (someone had written a review saying there were storage heaters in rooms, but think it's been updated since then). The food is outstanding. There were 200 people at the wedding. The food was served by well trained staff and was hot and very tasty - nicest wedding banquet I've ever had.
I completely forgot my swimsuit, but had it on good advice that the pool and outside jacuzzi over looking the lake were lovely! Breakfasts were tasty, with a decent choice. We ate dinner in the restaurant on our 2nd night - again, delicious. Good choice of food, we all had something different and not a single complaint.
The area around the hotel is nice, tho there isn't alot happening in the village, but to be honest, you don't have to leave the hotel for anything. We will definatley go back (if I can persuade my other half, it'll be for our own wedding!!).

  • Liked — setting, food, service
  • Disliked — noisy children - tho this isn't the hotels fault!

I stayed here for a relaxing night with my friends and it def. lived up to its expectations. We arrived a bit early and the receptionists were wonderful (they felt like our mammy's away from home) we had treatments booked in the spa so they minded our bags and let us use the swimming pool (after 12) while our room was being made ready. The spa was lovely (not as relaxing in decor as some but still nice) I would recommend the full body holistic care. Pure luxury.
The rooms were lovely and spacious and clean. Although one room was much colder than the other.
Restaurant - The menu didn't have much choice and at first we were not very impressed but wow did the food impress esp the side orders at E3.50 they easily fed 4. Everyone was happy with there dinner.
Bar was nice but very very quiet. Don't expect to come here partying as there isn't much to do.
Overall hotel was nice but was missing that x factor. There always felt to be just something missing.

I spent 2 nights in the Ramada hotel at Lough Allen and I have to say I can not fault it in any way. The staff were very attentive and friendly and the food was great.
I was with my two young children (1 & 2 years old) and it suited us perfectly. I would imagine it is a bit quiet if you are looking for a party weekend. Rest and relaxation were our goals and we got everything we needed. Apparently my wife had her best facial ever there.
All in all it was good value and we would go back. It makes you realise what other hotels are doing wrong.

Had a two night stay which was meant to be for 2 adults and 2 children so hotel suggested a suite. However only the 2 adults travelled and booked into the suite. Arrived approx 21.00, dropped bags in the room and immediately went to the bar for 1 drink. Went to bed at 23.30 and discovered that there was no TV in the bed room - contacted reception (no phone in bedroom either) and after a little discussion asked if we could be moved for the night (we knew that the hotel was full for the second night) as we knew the hotel was half empty on that particular night. After a quick chat on the phone we decided the best approach was to go down stairs and talk face to face. After a ten minute chat that was going nowhere, The night porter advised that he was in charge and that, No he was not going to move us and we could do what we liked about it......... A real beaut!
A discussion with the manager in the morning revealed that this kind of approach was not unusual for said individualand he was terribly sorry about our issue which he advised could have been simply resolved if he had been contacted. He transferred us to another room immediately.
Apart from this one individual we had a very pleasent stay and all other staff were very helpful and well trained. The breakfast was extreemly good and all in all reasonable value for Irish hotels.
Location is good in terms of the scenary and try to get a lake view room.

  • Liked — Good location and pleasent ambience
  • Disliked — Suite very medicore and night porter
  • Tips/Secrets: — Get any issues sorted out with day staff

Stayed in this hotel for our first anniversary. Rang in advance and booked flowers and champagne for room and the lady was very helpful. These were in the room when we arrived so happy days. The problem started when we went for dinner on the Friday.
First our booking was lost and we had to wait 15 mins for a table. Next I had to give back my steak twice as it wasnt cooked properly (burnt to a crisp both times). The staff were foreign and not helpful and you got the feeling they did not understand you most of the time.
Next morning we ordered breakfast in bed and it arrived in time. Great stuff.
That night the restaurant forgot our booking again. We had to wait another hour to get a table. Stupid of me i know but i decided to give the steak another go (surely they wouldnt get it wrong again, i mean this is steak in a 4 star hotel!!). You guessed it, exact same as Friday night. I even ordered it medium rare and it came out burnt.
Saturday night there was a stag and people were running up and down the halls until 5 in the morning. when we mentioned this to the receptionist there was no apology. Actually when we said we were disapointed she walked away into another room and came out a minute later!
We sent a letter to the hotel (first time ever, i am usually very easy to please) we didnt even get a response. My family have been here before and raved but we had a bad experience. I wont be going back.
Nice modern hotel with nice grounds. I think there is a problem with staff though as the kitchen/dining was a disaster!
