My Fiancé and I stayed for three nights; we found the reception staff very polite, professional and helpful. The Household/room service were very thorough, the rooms were immaculate every day and if you fancied a lie in, the rooms would be cleaned at your ease.
We arrived on Tuesday 5/7/11 and went into the Jack B Yeats bar for lunch, we both found the servings very generous and reasonably priced, the waiting staff were exceptional. We were both very impressed. On the second night we again decided to dine in the bar owing to the wonderful experience we'd had on the first night. This however was a completely different experience, we were waited on by a middle aged blonde waitress who obviously had pre judged us as having no money or not worth treating like humans, she spent the entire time avoiding us and delayed removing our plates. I counted her passing my finished plates 7 times without ever doing anything other than, from what I could see, avoiding work. We found her very rude and pretentious. We left the restaurant very annoyed without taking our complete meal which took on this occasion, two and a half hours to serve we were however required to pay for the entire ordered meal! She would bark directions and ignore us. We expected better treatment from waiting staff as paying customers and she treated other guests on the same day better with a more respectful attitude. We never offered a gratuity to this lady which I regularly insist on.
To be honest I feel the hotel should offer comment/complaint cards so that this type of treatment can be avoided. The third night we again dined in the bar but insisted if that lady attended us I was going to request someone else. Fortunately she didn't come near us and we got another wonderful waitress. I have to say the week would have been perfect had it not been for the waitress on the second night, we will not return owing to the lack of review forms for guests to immediately resolve issues such as ours. As you can imagine the annoyance relating to this waitress on the second night controlled how we viewed the rest of our stay. Other than this negative experience we loved our stay.
I feel all rooms are equally pleasant
