My husband and I recently returned from a vacation trip to Ireland. We stayed three nights at Cartron House Farm, also a charming B & B located in eastern County Galway. Built in 1770 and handsomely furnished with antiques, it can be a bit difficult to find but is well worth the effort. We stayed in the cottage and found our roomy suite comfortable, clean and quiet with living/dining room, well-equipped kitchen and two en suite bedrooms. And all was reasonably priced.
The Cartron House staff are incredible. Ann is undoubtedly the jolliest hostess in Galway. Their outstanding meals are available with advance notice, so well prepared by their Chef, Ann's grown son. Ann and her staff went 'way above and beyond' to make our stay unforgettable.
This area has lots of horse-related activities. So we hired an irish horse-drawn gypsy caravan and toured quiet country lanes and millenium forest at a more leisurely pace, a great activity for families as well. We visited a nearby hamlet, The Abby
, wandered about the ancient abby ruins and graveyard with high Celtic crosses.
I would highly recommend Cartron House Farm and horse-drawn caravaning to all who wish to experience Ireland off the beaten path.
