My husband and I stayed at the Ballaghtobin on March 25th - the first night of our 10-day stay in Ireland. having never been to Ireland before, we wanted to get the real and authentic feel of rustic Irlend, so we drove right out of Dublin to Ballaghtobin the day we arrived. From the start, Catherine was helpful in answering my emails with questions about the area and reserving a room for us. Her hospitality was delightful and the accommodations were quaint and romantic, even with jet lag! This old farm house was such a great alternative to the other B&Bs we stayed at throughout the week - it even had old church remains on the grounds! The only downside was that it was 20-30 minutes to drive into downtown Kilkenny for dinner. But for a quiet, romantic experience - this is the place for you!

“Magnificent!”

My friends and I have just arrived back home from Ireland where we spent a wonderful weekend. The absolute highlight of our trip was Ballaghtobin! This is certainly the most romantic place I have ever seen. I would definitely recommend it to everyone who is looking for something special and memorable. It is most of all about the feeling - warm welcome and hospitality - as well as magnificent sceneries and interior. Superb!!!

We stayed at Ballaghtobin in October 2005, and had a most pleasant stay! It was very convenient to the Kells area with all of its interesting ruins, and was also convenient to Kilkenny. The home was lovely, and the hostess was so gracious. We felt very welcomed and at home. We only stayed for 2 days, but commented over and over that this would be a wonderful place to home-base and stay for much longer.

It was quiet, in a beautiful setting, and we were free to stroll the long driveway and grounds. We had a fantastic breakfast both days, with fresh fruit, the best Greek yogurt, and great croissants and sausages.

The room was incredible - spacious and so nicely decorated. Our quarters were actually 3 rooms, the bedroom which had additional seating and a tv, a small living room with couch, loads of reading materials, magazines, and a tea tray with chocolates, and a large bathroom. There was not one detail overlooked in this place! If we are ever in the area again, we would love to stay here! Superb!

“Such a Deal”

Been to Ireland 41 times and have never seen a lovelier house at any price. It's off the noisy routes in the middle of the country making it a great location whether travelling north to south or east to west. Close to Kilkenny, some of Ireland's best potters and glass specialists and Mount Juliet for the best riding and golf. This house looks like a British Home and Garden spread; absolutely breathtaking and lavish in its comfort and ease. And, best of the best, extremely reasonable. The only downside is that they don't do dinner and you will need to perhaps eat in Kilkenny or in Callan. I cannot wait to bring some of my girlfriends there to hear the sharp intake of breath as they go through the front doors.
